The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded orange and red alerts (heavy to very heavy rainfall) in all districts of coastal Karnataka on Wednesday and Thursday. Two labourers were found dead at the Kaveri Pipeline work site in Bengaluru after heavy rains last night. As floodwaters entered fresh areas of Assam, the number of affected people has doubled to over four lakh since the previous day, while three more persons died due to the calamity taking the toll to eight, a government bulletin said on Tuesday. Landslides triggered by incessant rain snapped rail and road links to Barak Valley and Dima Hasao district of Assam and neighbouring states of Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its guidance Friday to cover transmission to animals after a paper published in The Lancet found evidence of transmission from human to animals in France. The Lancet paper highlighted the case of two gay men in France who are believed to have spread monkeypox to their dog. The case is the first known example during the current outbreak in the Americas and Europe of transmission from humans to an animal. 19-Year-Old Who Sustained Splinter Injuries in Srinagar Grenade Blast Dies; Toll Touches 2
A 19-year-old succumbed to her injuries a day after the grenade blast took place in Srinagar, taking the toll to two on Monday. An elderly man died in the explosion at Amira Kadal on Sunday while the teenager was admitted to the hospital after she was seriously injured in the blast. Nearly 30 people, mostly unsuspecting shoppers, were injured in the explosion at a busy market square on Sunday afternoon. Rafiya Nazir had passed the Class 12 last month with 94% and was preparing for the NEET exam to be held later this year. But she got critically injured in the blast when she, her mother, her sister and cousin were walking at the Hari Singh high street market. Inayat Hussain Teli, her teacher, said the three had to drop their relative at Bemina when the tragedy struck them. Hindu Temple Priest’s House Vandalised in Pakistan’s Karachi
A Hindu temple priest’s house was attacked by a mob in Korangi area Pakistan’s Karachi on Wednesday. The mob vandalised the priest’s house and also broke idols of the Shri Mari Mata Mandir in Korangi that the priest had kept in his house due to construction work going on at the temple. No arrests have been made by Pakistan Police so far. Police said that a high-level inquiry in the incident has been launched, adding that evidence is being collected. Pakistan’s Express Tribune newspaper reported that the incident caused panic and fear among the Hindu community living in Karachi, particularly in the Korangi area where police were deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
