DEBAL curry or Devil’s Curry is a delightful traditional Malaccan dish that has Portuguese roots. If you find yourself in Klang and hankering for this Eurasian treat, one of the places you can find it is at God Pa’s Fugang stall at Happy Land Kopitiam in Taman Chi Liung. Fugang means “kitchen” in the Kristang language. Stall owner Timothy Gomes, 53, enjoys a steady stream of customers who come to savour his Devil’s Curry and other Malaccan Portuguese dishes. According to him, the fresh ingredients used and method of preparation have garnered rave reviews on social media. “Our Portuguese dishes are unique. “They might seem simple to prepare, but a rich mix of fresh ingredients is key to the dishes’ burst of flavours and distinct taste,” he explained. Devil’s Curry got its name from the chillies used to make the dish. Gomes said that while the original “Gomes family recipe” for the curry paste was spicy, he had toned down the heat. Klang council to build pump house in Taman Bayu Perdana
CONSTRUCTION of a pump house in Taman Bayu Perdana, Klang, will start next month and be completed by year end. The facility with two pumps will be built along Jalan Batu Unjur 1 and costs an estimated RM1mil. Klang Municipal Council (MPK) Engineering Department director Zamri Othman said the pump house would help minimise the potential of water overflowing from a monsoon drain along a 700m stretch. Taman Bayu Perdana, he said, was susceptible to flash floods due to it being on lower ground. Both the residential and commercial areas in Jalan Batu Unjur 1 are badly affected. Zamri said water from the monsoon drain would flow into residential drains and enter the compound including the back portion of most houses. “A contractor for the project has been appointed. “Based on the consultant’s suggestion, a 22.5m-long pipe would be installed underground across the main road of Jalan Batu Unjur to divert surface water runoff. “The pumps will help push the water across into the … [Read more...] about Klang council to build pump house in Taman Bayu Perdana
Edgy about safety in Taman Pertama
DISSATISFIED Taman Pertama residents in Cheras turned emotional when a developer did not assure them of the safety of their homes during a dialogue. The session was held after a retention wall collapsed onto a double-storey link house in the neighbourhood last month. The developer explained its plans to rebuild the wall during the dialogue at Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai’s service centre. Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) representatives were also at the meeting, which was the fourth between residents and the developer after the May 22 incident. The collapse was attributed to the development of a 41-storey condominium nearby that caused some 40% of the 65m-long retention wall on Jalan Selangat to move by a metre. DBKL issued a stop-work order after the incident, while residents of several houses near the site had to be evacuated. During the dialogue, representatives from the developer said the conceptual design drawing of a new wall had been submitted to the Malaysian Institute of … [Read more...] about Edgy about safety in Taman Pertama
Large Hadron Collider finds new variant of particle
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), famously engaged in the quest for the Higgs boson, has turned up a heavier variant of a sub-atomic particle first discovered a quarter-century ago, scientists reported on Thursday. Newcomer The newcomer is called Chi-b(3P), which was uncovered in the debris from colliding protons, according to research published in the open-access online journal arxiv. Like the elusive Higgs and the photon, it is a boson, meaning it is a particle that carries force. But while the Higgs is not believed to be made of smaller particles, the Chi-b(3) comprises two relatively heavy particles, the beauty quark and its anti-quark. They are bonded by the so-called “strong” force which also causes the atomic nucleus to stick together. The Chi-b(3P) is a heavier version of a particle that was first observed around 25 years ago. “The Chi-b(3P) is a particle that was predicted by many theorists, but was not observed at previous experiments,” said James Walder, a British … [Read more...] about Large Hadron Collider finds new variant of particle
Poaching of Malayan tigers down to almost zero in Royal Belum park
There is a bit of good news for the Malayan tiger in the Year of the Tiger despite dire reports of its tiny, dwindling population numbers. Poaching in the Royal Belum State Park, an important source area for the animal, has fallen to almost zero in the past 24 months, says Perak State Parks Corporation head Shah Redza Hussein. The breeding of wild tigers in the park has also increased, he adds. “Based on the number of encroachment incidents we have detected and the number of snares that have been reduced to two this year, poaching has been reduced by almost 98%,” says Shah Redza. He attributes this to increased patrolling, especially by the corporation’s park rangers, the Orang Asli Menraq Patrol Unit, as well as WWF-Malaysia members. “The Royal Belum State Park is the best protected state park in the country.” Shah Redza says with the reduction in poaching as well as enhancement measures such as prey enrichment from the re-introduction of sambar deer in the forest, the … [Read more...] about Poaching of Malayan tigers down to almost zero in Royal Belum park
Witness: I suspected Syed Saddiq conspired with two other individuals over missing RM250,000
KUALA LUMPUR: An assistant superintendent of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) told the High Court here on Wednesday (June 22) that he suspected Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and two other individuals were involved in the missing RM250,000 cash from a safe kept in the house of the politician, two years ago. ASP Ahmad Marzuqi Ibrahim, 39, who is the investigating officer in the case, said he suspected this because only Syed Saddiq and two other individuals, namely Siti Nurul Hidayah and Lim Hooi Sean, knew the combination code for the safe. "Only Syed Saddiq's fingerprints were found on the cupboard and the safe. I suspected that all three of them were involved or abetted in the case of the missing money. "I had sent a letter to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) to obtain information to facilitate the investigation, but I have yet to receive any feedback from BNM," he said during examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Mohd 'Afif Ali on the second day of the trial of Syed … [Read more...] about Witness: I suspected Syed Saddiq conspired with two other individuals over missing RM250,000

‘Man of God’ Review: Teen Girls Turn the Tables on a Peeping Pastor in Clever L.A. Play
Click here to read the full article. The lights come up on four Korean American teens crowded around a hotel bed. They’re members of a So Cal church group on a mission to Bangkok, Thailand — though the location only matters is the abstract. Audiences never leave the hotel room in “ Man of God ,” although director Maggie Burrows’ creative staging of this punchy feminist one-act from Anna Ouyang Moench has our imaginations working overtime. Neon lights outside the window suggest the world of temptation beyond the sanctuary of the hotel room. This should be a safe space, but the play’s opening revelation ruptures that illusion: The most devout of the underage missionaries, Kyung-Hwa (Ji-Young Yoo) holds a tiny webcam in her hands, discovered moments earlier stashed behind the hotel toilet. Who could have installed it? Not much mystery there: It’s labeled “Property of New Seoul Christian Church,” which means their chaperone, the pastor, must be responsible. So the real question … [Read more...] about ‘Man of God’ Review: Teen Girls Turn the Tables on a Peeping Pastor in Clever L.A. Play
‘The Daily Show’ Quietly Scrapped Chris Brown as a Guest Following Controversy
The Daily Show scrapped a planned guest appearance by Chris Brown at the last minute, following reports that members of the show's staff were uncomfortable with the singer's history of domestic violence. Brown was set to appear for an interview with Trevor Noah on Tuesday night's show, but that's not what happened: As Fusion notes , Brown was quietly swapped out for actor and comedian Nick Cannon, who joined the show for a jovial interview about his Nickelodeon gig and Spike Lee's upcoming film Chi-Raq . Noah made no mention of the scrapped plans. Cannon's appearance was announced on Instagram several hours before it aired. Chris Brown pleaded guilty in 2009 to the felony assault of Rihanna, his girlfriend at the time. He served five years of probation, as well as domestic violence counseling and a restraining order against Rihanna, but since then he has stormed off TV sets when asked about the incident. The Daily Beast reported on Tuesday that the Daily Show … [Read more...] about ‘The Daily Show’ Quietly Scrapped Chris Brown as a Guest Following Controversy
