The volunteers were rescued from the volatile frontier area on the Golan Heights following a request by the United States and its European allies, according to officials. It was the first such Israeli intervention in Syria’s civil war, now in its eight year. Jordan confirmed the Syrian citizens entered its territory to be resettled in Western countries in weeks. Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said the total number of evacuees was 422, even though the initial request was to evacuate 800. It was unclear what happened to the remainder. World Iraq Syria ISIS Border security build the wall Iraq has begun building a massive border fence to prevent Islamic State militant group (ISIS) fighters from entering the country from Syria. The electrified, barbed wire barrier so far includes a nearly 20 feet-wide trench and currently begins at the formerly ISIS-held border town of Al-Qaim, running about 12 miles north along Iraq's vast border with Syria, where the last of the jihadis that once claimed half of both nations are believed to be hiding. World Iran Syria Israel Lebanon Hezbollah Iran and its ally Hezbollah will stay in Syria until the country is liberated from terrorists and regains its territorial integrity, a Lebanese politician told Russian media Wednesday. “If it had not been for Hezbollah [in Syria], Daesh [the Islamic State] would have been here [in Lebanon]," Nabih Berri, the country’s speaker of parliament, said. Berri is a close ally of Hezbollah in Lebanese politics. The statement was made as a delegation of senior Russian officials traveled to Lebanon’s neighbor Israel, where the two countries discussed the future of Syria and a potential plan to move Iran’s militias away from the region of southern Syria that borders Israel. Both Moscow and Tehran are currently in Syria to provide military and other kinds of support to Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad. Reports have suggested that Russia and Israel have reached a deal that would see Iranian militia fighters retreat at least 15 … [Read more...] about Iran Will Stay in Syria Until the Country Is Free, Politician Says As Russia and Israel Hatch Border Plan
