‘Train strikes remind me of great trips I once took – now travel is a constant trauma’
News of the train strikes made me think back to all the great trips I had by train. But that’s a long time ago. These days travel is difficult not just because of my mobility, but because so much is organised online. Friends tell me train tickets are to be bought or cancelled on their phones. I wouldn’t have a clue where to start. Buses are no better. Remember the days when we memorised the paper timetable, turned up at the bus stop, kept checking our watches and hoped for the best? Now passengers can track exactly where the bus is on their phone. But I can’t do that. I can check the weather, news and make FaceTime calls to my grandchildren on my iPad, but that’s it. Once again, old people like me who haven’t kept up to date with technology are left behind. My Happy Valleys! Wales is wonderful - they don't need to change a thing, Val says ( Image: Getty Images/EyeEm) Wales needs a rebrand says business leaders because it’s overlooked by tourists in favour of … [Read more...] about ‘Train strikes remind me of great trips I once took – now travel is a constant trauma’
Teen girl charged with kidnapping, trafficking of 13-year-old: Police
Police on Wednesday morning rescued a 13-year-old girl who was kidnapped by another teenager, in what authorities currently believe was a human trafficking situation. The incident occurred in Canton, Georgia, just after 10:20 a.m. when officers of the Canton Police Department approached a 2014 Dodge Caravan that had been reported stolen. A young woman was seen driving the car while using a cellphone, while a younger girl was also observed, Fox 11 News reported Friday. Once pulled over, the teen driver was unable to provide any license or registration for the vehicle. Upon searching the car, officers found 13 THC vape cartridges, three vape pens, a THC-laced candy themed after Nerds Rope, and numerous pieces of lingerie. The officers were eventually able to ascertain that the 16-year-old driver was planning to transport the younger girl over state lines, leading them to suspect a human trafficking scenario. Police were able to reunite the 13-year-old with her family. … [Read more...] about Teen girl charged with kidnapping, trafficking of 13-year-old: Police

‘India, Russia should have direct trade and investment agreements’
As Russia’s access to its traditional markets of exports and imports are hugely limited following its Ukraine invasion and the subsequent sanctions, Moscow is looking to develop new trade and investment relations with partners in Asia, including India, China and Southeast Asian countries, said Russian aluminium tycoon Oleg Deripaska. Speaking on the sidelines of 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), also known as the ‘Russian Davos’, Mr. Deripaska, founder of RUSAL, one of the world’s largest aluminium producers, said there’s an understanding that “the new normal” would fundamentally change Russia’s economic reality. To facilitate such a shift, he said, Russia needed to create the same kind of infrastructure as it had built over the 12 years, from 1991 to 2003, with Europe. This includes setting up new logistics routes and related infrastructure, customs procedures, trade agreements, infrastructure for settlements, gaining access to debt capital markets and … [Read more...] about ‘India, Russia should have direct trade and investment agreements’
