BRITS are set to bask in a 14C winter warmer this weekend - before rain hits the north and frosty nights return next week. Today an “African plume” sweeping the country led to temperatures soaring to as high as 16.1C - hotter than California - as sun-seekers were spotted shirtless and in skimpy swimwear in mid-February. As the UK enjoyed its warmest day of the year, elsewhere the mercury sunk right down, with -3.5C in Charlwood, Surrey. Some warm, sunny weather will continue to grace large parts of the UK over the coming weekend, with the Met Office predicting a "dry, sunny and springlike day for many" on Friday. But wind and rain is forecast for large parts of north west England, Scotland and most of Wales over the course of the weekend.UMBRELLA AT THE READY Simon Patridge of the Met Office told The Sun Online: "Through the weekend it will turn slightly cooler but it will still be fairly mild. "There's a chance of it reaching 14C in some sunny spells, particularly in … [Read more...] about UK weather forecast – Britain to sizzle in 14C winter warmer this weekend before rain blasts north and frost returns

A MAN held over a fatal train stabbing is thought to have given cops the slip at first as his lover picked him up in her car. Dad Lee Pomeroy, 51, was killed in a frenzied attack during a bust-up with a stranger. The man is believed to have left a trail of the victim’s blood as he fled. It was found smeared on a fence near the railway station he ran from following the killing of Lee Pomeroy. He is also said to have dropped a bloodied hat in nearby woods. As a manhunt was launched, the suspect is thought to have initially escaped police when a girlfriend collected him in her car. Lee and his killer accidentally bumped into each other when they boarded the train — dad Lee with his 14-year-old boy. Father and son were on a day trip to central London at lunchtime on Friday. Sources say that after a row lasting several minutes on the Surrey to London Waterloo service, the suspect pulled out a knife and slashed Lee in the neck and body. Were YOU on the train? BRITAIN will be drenched in 36 hours of "heavy, thundery" rain before snowstorms are set to return next week. The Met Office has issued a 'severe' weather warning for tomorrow and Saturday, forecasting two inches of rain will fall in the South West. The downpours are set to continue right through Friday and well into Saturday across the southwest parts of the UK, finally passing by 6pm. The warning comes after temperatures plunged as low as -6C overnight - causing freezing fog and ice on the roads this morning. Milder weather is forecast for the next few days in other parts of the country - but the cold snap and snowfall is predicted to return once again after the weekend. Forecasters warned the UK could sit in "battleground" of cold temperatures next week as the mercury plummets following murky weekend conditions. Cloud and drizzle is set to dampen northern parts of the country tonight while heavy showers will soak the southwest of England. And it will be another frosty start to … [Read more...] about UK weather forecast: Met Office map shows 36 HOURS of rain before snow batters Britain AGAIN next week as ‘severe’ warning issued
SNOWSTORMS will freeze Britain next week after a cold blast this morning brought fog, frost and icy -5C winds. The Siberian 'Beast from the East' is chilling the nation as the mercury plunges dramatically following snow storms across parts of the country. Sara Thornton, director of digital weather company Weathertrending, told The Sun Online: "After a less cold few days, chillier air will start to seep back from the northeast by the start of next week, bringing a return to night frosts and perhaps a few wintry showers. "The cold air is being brought by a large block of high pressure to our northeast, fending off milder Atlantic winds. "However computer forecasts are increasingly ‘keen’ that the jet stream will blow the block of high pressure away after midweek, ushering in higher temperatures, wind and rain. "These predictions may be over-confident. The UK could sit in a battleground between mild and cold air later next week, and at the boundary between the two, … [Read more...] about UK weather forecast: Map shows cold blast and snowstorms to batter Britain AGAIN next week after ice and freezing fog today
FREEZING weather is set to hit the UK this week as the Beast from the East returns. But will it hit your area? Here's what we know. Where is it snowing in the UK? Some parts of the country which include Exmoor, Wales, the Peak District and the Pennines, were blanketed with snow while Surrey, Sussex, Kent and even London saw some flurries last night. Forecasters say a further 3cm could fall today with up to an inch accumulating in Snowdonia, in Wales. Snow has begun to settle on hills in the South of England, including the Chilterns, Salisbury Plain, The Berkshire and Wiltshire Downs and parts of The Costwolds - a wintry surprise to wake up to for people in the home counties this morning. The highest areas of the UK will see much heavier snow, especially in northern England, Wales and Scotland. The Pennines, Cheviot Hills, the Eastern Highlands and the Grampians will see settling snow throughout the day, as will surrounding areas.
