Wordle is a word game that tests veteran players and newcomers who all try to solve the puzzle within six tries; fortunately, Newsweek is on hand to help those who might want some help to work it out. The rules of the puzzle game are simple and follow a color-coded system that players use in order to work out the five-letter word. In the game, green tiles show the player has chosen the correct letter and that it is in the right place, a yellow tile indicates the letter is right but in the wrong place while a gray tile means the letter is not in the word. Luckily, Wordle resets each day, which means those players who failed to solve the puzzle only need to wait a few hours before they can try again. Software engineer Josh Wardle create Wordle during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic as a game for him and his partner to play. When Wordle launched in October 2021, there were an estimated 90 people who could be counted among its active player base but it has since grown … [Read more...] about Wordle #337 answer: Hints and tips to solve Sunday, May 22, Wordle

Thomas Markle now hosting show with photographer who targets Meghan, Doria
Thomas Markle is sharing a YouTube channel with a press photographer who checked out the house next door to Meghan Markle 's mother—even after his own past run-ins with the paparazzi. Karl Larsen took a widely circulated set of photographs of Meghan and Prince Harry at the polo on Saturday. He also runs a critical YouTube channel about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with his co-host—Meghan's father Thomas Markle. And Larsen visited the house next door to Meghan's mother Doria when it was up for sale, touring the backyard where he suggested he could hear children playing . Larsen told Newsweek he did not intend to suggest the children were the Sussex children, Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor, and was only joking. However, the saga has echoes of Thomas Markle's own experiences with the paparazzi in the run-up to Meghan and Harry's royal wedding in 2018. The Duchess of Sussex told Oprah Winfrey in her March 2021 tell-all: "They moved into the apartment next … [Read more...] about Thomas Markle now hosting show with photographer who targets Meghan, Doria
“We’re never leaving”: Russian TV pundits warn of lengthy Ukraine conflict
A prominent anchor on Russian state television has warned that its country's forces are "never leaving" Ukraine. The comments by Vladimir Solovyov on Russia-1 suggest that state-backed television is pushing the line that Vladimir Putin 's war in Ukraine is likely to be a lengthy one. As Newsweek has previously reported , guests on Russia-1's programs get their talking points from the Kremlin. On Sunday, Solovyov said that the troops in the pro-Russian self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics are "fighting for their land" in the Donbas region, he then went on to ask what is the Ukrainian territorial defense fighting for when "none of it is their land." After withdrawing from the Kyiv region, Putin's campaign has focused on Donbas in Ukraine's east where Russian forces have stepped up their bombardment beyond the frontlines. "We are telling people, come to your senses," Solovyov continued , "We're telling people, remember who you are. Look who conquered … [Read more...] about “We’re never leaving”: Russian TV pundits warn of lengthy Ukraine conflict
The dangerous parallel between monkeypox and AIDS
Experts have drawn parallels to the recent coverage of the monkeypox virus to initial reporting about the HIV/AIDs epidemic in the 1980s, warning that it will fuel stigma and jeopardize the response to the outbreak. The United Nations AIDS agency (UNAIDS) said that "a significant proportion" of recent monkeypox cases have been identified among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men. But UNAIDS added that the World Health Organization ( WHO ) has said that available evidence suggests those who are most at risk are people who have had close physical contact with someone with monkeypox, and that risk is not limited to men who have sex with men. David Heymann, a leading advisor to WHO, said the recent cases appear to have gotten into the population through sexual contact . He told the Associated Press earlier this week that the leading theory to explain the recent spread was sexual transmission at raves held in Spain and Belgium. That has led to some reporting … [Read more...] about The dangerous parallel between monkeypox and AIDS

Days after a group of people dressed in clothing reminiscent of Nazi brownshirts drove a rented box truck displaying hateful messages down Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, a watchdog group is speaking out against the incident and says it has identified the hate group and two of its members. According to StopAntisemitism, an organization that works to expose people and groups that engage in antisemitic behavior, the group responsible for Saturday’s incident is the Goyim Defense League. The organization also named two people who were captured on video participating in the hateful rally: Jon Minadeo II and Robert Frank Wilson. “We are horrified that innocent bystanders in Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, Jewish and otherwise, were subjected to such vile and atrocious hate,” Liora Rez, executive director of StopAntisemitism, told The Times on Monday. “When white supremacists like the Goyim Defense League are allowed to spread this type of vile bigotry … [Read more...] about Anti-hate group speaks out against antisemitic incident in West Hollywood and Beverly Hills
A far more dangerous moment now than in 1992
Exactly 30 years after the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, the Gyanvapi mosque dispute offers less déjà vu and more striking contrasts in the two scenarios. Like architecture distinguishes clearly between rubble and ruin, we must look clearly at the differences between the Ayodhya matter then and the dispute over Varanasi’s Gyanvapi mosque in 2022 now. The differences are stark. There is an Act now The first dissimilarity is the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991 which did not exist when the political movement for Ayodhya caught steam. Also, Ayodhya was out of its ambit. The Supreme Court verdict in 2019 went on to underline the importance of the 1991 Act in 10 pages (pages 116-125) and how it “protects and secures the fundamental values of the Constitution”. Agreeing with the rationale of the law, the five-judge Bench said; “The Places of Worship Act imposes a non-derogable obligation towards enforcing our commitment to secularism under the Indian … [Read more...] about A far more dangerous moment now than in 1992
