Netflix and Disney+ both plan to offer subscribers new, ad-supported plans as competition between the popular streaming services heats up. Disney+ stocks surged on Wednesday after the streaming platform announced that 14 million new subscribers had joined the service during the second quarter of 2022. The total number of Disney streaming subscribers—including those using Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu—is now 221.1 million worldwide, surpassing the 220.67 million global total for Netflix . All of the services hope to increase future subscriptions by offering lower priced, ad-supported subscriber tiers. However, it is not clear if all current subscribers who are used to ad-free Disney+ and Netflix will retain the services if the lowest price option includes ads . Disney+ announced that its ad-supported plan would launch on December 8, at a cost of $7.99 a month—the current price for an ad-free subscription. Subscribers who want to remain ad-free will need to adjust to what is now … [Read more...] about Streaming Wars: Will Netflix, Disney+ win or lose subscribers with ads?

Foxconn starts to feel sting of slowing phone sales
Yimou Lee and Sarah Wu (The Jakarta Post) PREMIUM Reuters/Taipei ● Thu, August 11 2022 Apple iPhone assembler Foxconn gave a cautious outlook for the current quarter after posting results that exceeded expectations, citing slowing smartphone demand after a pandemic-fueled boom. The comments from the Taiwanese company, the world's largest contract electronics maker, echo those from other Asian tech firms that have warned of a drop in sales of smartphones, TVs and gadgets as surging inflation and deepening concerns of a recession crimp consumer spending. Foxconn has been largely shielded from these demand problems so far as the popularity of iPhones has endured among a loyal and relatively affluent customer base, and it said on Wednesday that rising inflation will only have a limited impact on mid- to high-end smartphone demand in the rest of the year. to Read Full Story SUBSCRIBE NOW Starting from IDR 55,500/month Unlimited access to our web and app … [Read more...] about Foxconn starts to feel sting of slowing phone sales

‘I’m a hairy OnlyFans model – fans can’t get enough and I make £17,000-a-month’
Cherry the Mistress was studying to be a sex and relationship therapist - but found a much better way of making money. The OnlyFans model decided to drop out altogether after realising creating content full-time would be far more lucrative. As a proudly hairy Onlyfans star, the 20-year-old says she can earn around £12,4560 to £16,500 ($15,000 to $20,000) per month through her adult content, making 10 times more than the wages she'd made at her old day job. Although Cherry now regards her therapist training as "ironic" given the field she's gone into, she arguably uses many relevant people skills day-to-day, including being there to chat with lonely fans and responding to those who make custom requests. Nearly two years into her new career, the former student says she's very happy with her lucrative line of work, which she says has helped boost her body confidence no end. Cherry had been studying to become a sex and relationships therapist, a course she now regards as … [Read more...] about ‘I’m a hairy OnlyFans model – fans can’t get enough and I make £17,000-a-month’

Six-month-old baby has amazing hair just like Stranger Things’ Steve Harrington
A six-month old baby girl has been compared to Stranger Things actor Steve Harrington due to her wild hair that doctors said would fall out after she was born with a head full of tresses. When Hannah Beddows’ pride and joy entered the world, her head was covered with a mousey brown mop top, but rather than disappear within weeks, the hair kept growing and the little girl’s silky brown long locks have since been the talk of the internet, and then some. Proud mum Hannah posted videos of her daughter on TikTok on the day she was born, with the caption “most of her hair will fall out”, and again six months later... but rather than seeing a baby with nothing on top, it was the complete opposite with a head full of wavy, erratic hair. Steve Harrington has risen to become one of the main characters on Stranger Things ( Image: Netflix) And that brought instant comparisons with one of the main protagonists from the hit Netflix show, Stranger Things, with Harrington … [Read more...] about Six-month-old baby has amazing hair just like Stranger Things’ Steve Harrington
Jury is told 2 men wanted to kidnap Whitmer, start revolt
By JOEY CAPPELLETTI and ED WHITE GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — Two anti-government extremists sought to spark a “second American revolution” by kidnapping Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a prosecutor told jurors Wednesday, as the government gets a second opportunity for convictions in an alleged plot to shock the country into chaos before the 2020 election. Adam Fox and Barry Croft Jr. are on trial for a second time, four months after a jury couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict while acquitting two other men. The jury will hear competing themes. Prosecutors again will present secretly recorded conversations and video, text messages and social media posts to show that a band of rebels was serious about snatching the Democratic governor. Defense attorneys, however, insist there was no actual conspiracy. They will attack the motivations of undercover FBI agents and informants who infiltrated the group and built the investigation. Fox, 39, lived under a vacuum shop in the Grand … [Read more...] about Jury is told 2 men wanted to kidnap Whitmer, start revolt
The Goop-ification of wellness is on the way out (you can thank Gen Z)
The new cheese puff snack brand Ffups stresses that they are not a “better-for-you” alternative. They make no promises of rejuvenated digestion, extra nutrients, or plant-based goodness. These “unapologetically indulgent” puffs are just tasty “things for your mouth.” “If you’re worried about Ffups being healthy, you’re on the wrong website,” reads the blunt marketing copy. “Go eat some carrots!” Andrea Hernández, the creator of snack trend newsletter Snaxshot, has witnessed a new generation of brands rejecting aggressive health marketing claims, which have begun to feel like “Mad Libs” of every nutrient under the sun. Consumers were bombarded with charcoal-infused cheddar cheese and vegetable ice cream (“it’s good for immunity!”). CBD seltzer promised a “meditation in a can.” Even Evian released a line of functional “mineral enhanced” sparkling water called Feed Your Mind to allegedly boost cognitive function. “The funniest was beverage brands having to label … [Read more...] about The Goop-ification of wellness is on the way out (you can thank Gen Z)
Newsboy’s tips for Monday at Carlisle, Plumpton and Wolverhampton
STORM ASSET is fancied to win for the third time in 2022 with a win in the Dunstall Park Handicap (8.00) at Wolverhampton today. The application of cheekpieces has triggered an upturn in the fortunes of the Michael Wigham trainee, who ended a barren 2021 with second placings at Chelmsford City and Newcastle. With the headgear on the for the first time, the son of Postponed posted a first career win with a one-length score from Surrey Territories over seven furlongs at Lingfield Park on January 7. Reappearing over this evening's course and distance, Storm Asset finished third to Guitar but was back to winning form - again over Wolverhampton's seven furlongs - at the start of this month. That win came from a British Horseracing Authority rating of 50 but a 3lb rise in the weights should not stop another good account in a race where few of Storm Asset’s rivals boast convincing recent form. Earlier on the Wolverhampton card, top weight DORA PENNY should go well at decent odds in … [Read more...] about Newsboy’s tips for Monday at Carlisle, Plumpton and Wolverhampton
Questions remain over cop murder after Ferdy’s arrest
Dio Suhenda (The Jakarta Post) PREMIUM Jakarta ● Thu, August 11 2022 The National Police have finally announced that their former internal affairs chief, Insp. Gen. Ferdy Sambo, allegedly masterminded the murder of his aide de camp, Brig. Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat, but questions remain over his reported motive. The police are under pressure to be fully transparent in their investigation into the case following revelations that Ferdy and other police officials tampered with evidence in their attempt to cover up Yosua’s grisly killing, reportedly at Ferdy’s behest. While the arrests of Ferdy and his three alleged accomplices — identified as Richard Elizier, Ricky Rizal and KM — have drawn praise from civil society groups, the public remains in the dark as to what exactly drove Ferdy to kill his own bodyguard. to Read Full Story SUBSCRIBE NOW Starting from IDR 55,500/month Unlimited access to our web and app content e-Post daily digital newspaper … [Read more...] about Questions remain over cop murder after Ferdy’s arrest
