A PUB landlord was hit with a £265 parking bill even though he paid more than he needed to, because his ticket was missing his full number plate. Richard Starkey, of Fixby in Huddersfield, paid 60p for a 50p ticket to go to an appointment at a medical centre when he parked in Lawson Road Car Park in March. The 64-year-old entered his full plate details, R555MDS, as required by the car park operators. The firm asks for number plates to prevent users from passing partially used tickets on. When Mr Starkey printed his ticket it was missing the final three digits - it only printed R555. A few days later, he was shocked to receive a parking charge notice of £100 within 28 days, or it could be reduced to £60 if it was paid within 14 days. Mr Starkey, who owns The Roundhill and The Four Sons pubs, told the ExaminerLive: “I was determined to fight it as it just seemed ridiculous and completely out of proportion." A pro-Brexit number plate is one of hundreds that have been vetoed by the DVLA, as new ‘68’ registrations cause headaches for authorities. More than 400 letter and number combinations have fallen foul of the DVLA’s guidelines which ban registrations it feels “may cause offence, embarrassment or are in poor taste."
