Teachers face a harsh lesson as inflation drives up the cost of everything from paper to pencils before the school year begins, leading some to cut back on supplies - or substitute with cheaper items. "If you ask any teacher, Ticonderoga pencils are it," said Kristina Eisenhower, 35, an instructional facilitator. Yet a 12-pack of that popular brand costs $3.99, up nearly 25% from a year ago, on Amazon.com Inc . In parts of Arkansas, where Eisenhower works, teachers' annual $500 stipend for classroom materials has not increased in 15 years. "They're buying cheaper pencils, cheaper supplies, which in reality are not going to last as long as the name-brand supplies they've bought in the past," she said. FNC’s Carlson: ‘Inflation Reduction Act May Be a Classic Example of Misinformation’
Wednesday, FNC host Tucker Carlson opened his broadcast with a scathing critique of the so-called Inflation Reduction Act. According to Carlson, the moniker “inflation reduction” was misinformation, which has been something the Biden administration has proclaimed to be a priority in combatting. Transcript as follows: CARLSON: People say the federal government seems big, maybe bigger than ever. Well, it actually is the largest employer in the world — the Federal government. Nothing else comes close — not Google, not Amazon, not the Communist Party of China — nothing. How many people work for the United States government? Let’s put it this way. There are more than a hundred countries around the world whose total populations (that is, every man, woman and child) are smaller than our Federal workforce — entire countries, many of them. The US government, in other words, is astoundingly large, world historically big, scale without precedent, truly gargantuan. So, what do all … [Read more...] about FNC’s Carlson: ‘Inflation Reduction Act May Be a Classic Example of Misinformation’

NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles! We heard a lot from Democrats, President Joe Biden, the media, and environmentalists about how great the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) will be for climate change. Curiously, it was crickets over the new law’s central claim — that it will reduce inflation. It won’t. But one thing this massive tax-and-spend behemoth will do — aside from unleashing 87,000 new IRS agents on middle-class taxpayers and small business owners — is extend direct subsidies for electric vehicles (EVs). CALIFORNIANS ARE BEING ASKED TO CONSERVE ELECTRICITY AHEAD OF HEAT WAVE Direct federal subsidies for EVs under a law passed in 2010 amounted to $7,500 per vehicle. U.S. Home Sales Drop for Sixth Straight Month as Housing Recession Rolls On
Sales of existing homes in the United States fell by more than expected in July as high borrowing costs, fading demand, and tight inventories weighed down the housing market. Sales of previously owned homes fell to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.81 million, a 5.9 percent decline from the prior month, the National Association of Realtors said Thursday. The June figure was revised down to a 5.11 million rate from 5.12 million. Compared with a year ago, sales are down 20.2 percent. “The ongoing sales decline reflects the impact of the mortgage rate peak of 6% in early June,” said NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun. “Home sales may soon stabilize since mortgage rates have fallen to near 5%, thereby giving an additional boost of purchasing power to home buyers.” This was the slowest pace of sales since May of 2020, when much of the economy was shuttered and concerns over infection were extremely high. Excluding the pandemic-related decline, this was the slowest pace of sales … [Read more...] about U.S. Home Sales Drop for Sixth Straight Month as Housing Recession Rolls On

The federal investigation into once powerful and now disbarred attorney Alex Murdaugh’s alleged financial schemes is ramping up with a new fraud charge for South Carolina bank scion Russell Laffitte. According to a new superseding indictment made public Wednesday, a federal grand jury charged Laffitte, the former CEO of Palmetto State Bank, with an additional count of fraud for allegedly extending a $500,000 line of credit in 2015 to a "bank customer." Though federal prosecutors haven't named the bank customer, victims’ lawyers identified him as Murdaugh. Ukrainian Prez Zelensky Calls on UN to ‘Ensure Security’ of Nuclear Plant
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday called on the United Nations to ensure security at the Zaporizhzhia power plant, where increased fighting has raised fears of a nuclear incident. “The UN must ensure the security of this strategic object, its demilitarisation, and complete liberation from Russian troops,” Zelensky said in a statement after meeting UN chief Antonio Guterres in Lviv. The Ukrainian leader also criticised “deliberate” Russian attacks on the facility. Ukraine and Russia have been accusing each other of targeting the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant — the biggest in Europe — which Russia seized last March. Tensions around the power plant have fuelled global fears of a nuclear disaster. The two leaders also discussed grain exports, after a deal brokered by the UN and Turkey allowed their resumption this month. Exports had been blocked following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “We agreed to continue the coordination of the grain initiative … [Read more...] about Ukrainian Prez Zelensky Calls on UN to ‘Ensure Security’ of Nuclear Plant
