Tiger Woods Not Interested in Nike, Sticking with FootJoy

May 17, 2022 by www.breitbart.com

Tiger Woods has opted for FootJoy over Nike at the PGA Championship as he continues rehabbing from injuries sustained in a car accident. Woods wore the $200 FootJoy Premiere Series Packard golf shoes at the 2022 Masters. This week, it has been reported that he will continue wearing FootJoy shoes when he competes in the upcoming PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma, because the shoes offer him better support for his physical limitations, the New York Post wrote. Last weekend, Woods also said that he feels stronger now than he did during The Masters. “I’ve gotten a lot stronger since the Masters,” Woods said on Sunday. “We went back to work on Tuesday [after the Masters]. Monday was awful. I did nothing and Tuesday was leg day. So, we went right back after it.” “We started ramping up a week or so ago, played a little bit more golf, and it was good. Everything is better,” he added. Tiger Woods wearing FootJoy shoes during the 2022 PGA Championship … [Read more...] about Tiger Woods Not Interested in Nike, Sticking with FootJoy

A player of 60s vintage who showed us what 2020s might be like

May 18, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

It is impossible to be objective about death. If it involves an accident that ends a sportsman’s life prematurely, you think about his family; then you ask, did he live up to potential? That question can seldom be answered in the positive, for it is human nature to believe that the next event will be the determining one, the next assignment will establish the legacy. Those who play sport at the highest level are judged by performance and not on potential. Once a career is over, there is no room for could-have-beens. Whatever problems the late Shane Warne had outside the sport, he will always count as one of the all-time greats, his 708 Test wickets testimony to that. Did he live up to potential? It doesn’t matter. What we know is good enough to guarantee him a place among the finest. Andrew Symonds was a cricketer of 1960s vintage who played in the 2000s and showed us what the 2020s might be like. He was a throwback to an age where the sport wasn’t an all-consuming task-master, … [Read more...] about A player of 60s vintage who showed us what 2020s might be like

ESPN analyst who blasted Warriors’ Steph Curry in 2019 finally admits take was ‘delusional’

May 17, 2022 by www.sfgate.com

ESPN analyst Damon Jones' 2019 take about Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry and James Harden aged like a bowl of tortilla soup left out on the counter for three years. To Jones' credit, the former NBA guard and coach stepped up and poured the the soup on his own head this time around. In the aftermath of Kevin Durant leaving the Warriors in the summer of 2019, Jones was asked on ESPN whether the newly solo Curry or Harden had more to prove. Jones' answer: Curry, unquestionably. "He has to show why, when the pundits say this is Steph Curry's team, or his franchise, and he has never took a team to the playoffs without two All-Stars on the team," Jones said. "James Harden has." Aside from being wrong — Jones is ignoring the 2014-15 Warriors, where Klay Thompson was the only other All-Star on a title team, and the fact that Curry won back-to-back league MVPs pre-KD — the take was also foolish in real time because it ignored Harden's already-extensive history of … [Read more...] about ESPN analyst who blasted Warriors’ Steph Curry in 2019 finally admits take was ‘delusional’

May 17, 2022 by www.denverpost.com

Lucas Giolito felt “a little off” the morning after his May 10 start for the Chicago White Sox . “I immediately talked to (head athletic trainer) James (Kruk) and got tested, and that first rapid test showed positive (for COVID-19),” Giolito said Tuesday. “Then we did the PCR and it came back the next day. That was that.” The Sox placed Giolito on the COVID-19-related injured list Friday. He’s expected to return Wednesday and pitch against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. “It was (my) second time having it,” Giolito said. “I had it in the offseason and this time was a little bit rougher the first couple of days. But I recovered very quickly. Excited to be back. It was not fun being away from the team and having to watch all the games on TV. “I had body aches and stuff in the mornings and at night. It was two days of pretty bad. During the daytime, when we got meds in me, I was pretty good. But it was important to rest and recuperate. I’m glad to be feeling … [Read more...] about Lucas Giolito expected to start Wednesday for the Chicago White Sox after returning from the COVID injured list

From cucumber salad to confit, three recipes to make the most of sweet onions

May 17, 2022 by www.denverpost.com

Who doesn’t get a sweet tooth, at least once in awhile, for a sweet onion? That thick slice of Rockies-purple red onion on a burger at Coors Field? Sweets cooked slowly and forever into a jam-like confit, sweeter than any that regular onions could make? It’s well-nigh impossible to think of a cuisine anywhere that doesn’t use onions, but sweet onions are special. (They also are a wee percentage of the world crop.) Many sweets sell in Colorado, such as Washington’s Walla Walla, Hawaii’s Maui, that Rockies-purple Red Bermuda or even our own state’s Colorado Sweet, available here most years August through October. But close to half of all the sweet onions that cooks buy in the United States come from Vidalia, Ga., and carry that name. Discovered accidentally (and felicitously) in the 1930s during the Great Depression, a Vidalia sports a whopping 12 percent sugar content versus a normal onion’s 5 percent. Too, the low sulfur content of the soil around the town of Vidalia contributes … [Read more...] about From cucumber salad to confit, three recipes to make the most of sweet onions

Dr. John Cheng, man killed in California church shooting, called a hero

May 17, 2022 by www.denverpost.com

LAGUNA WOODS, Calif. — A gunman motivated by hatred against Taiwan chained shut the doors of a California church and hid firebombs before shooting at a gathering of mostly elderly Taiwanese parishioners, killing a man who tackled him, authorities said. David Chou, 68, of Las Vegas — a U.S. citizen whom authorities say grew up in Taiwan — drove to Orange County on Saturday and the next day attended a lunch held by Irvine Taiwanese Presbyterian Church, which worships at Geneva Presbyterian Church in the community of Laguna Woods. Though he knew no one there, he spent about an hour mingling with about 40 attendees and then executed his plot, authorities said at a news conference. He chained the doors and put super glue in the keyholes. He had two 9 mm handguns — legally purchased years ago in Las Vegas — and three bags, containing among other things four Molotov-cocktail-type incendiary devices and extra ammunition. He opened fire and in the ensuing chaos Dr. John Cheng, 52, tackled … [Read more...] about Dr. John Cheng, man killed in California church shooting, called a hero

DA: Church gunman wanted to ‘execute’ as many as possible

May 17, 2022 by www.denverpost.com

By AMY TAXIN and STEFANIE DAZIO SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — The man charged with opening fire on a Taiwanese church congregation of mainly elderly people in Southern California wanted to “execute in cold blood as many people in that room as possible,” a prosecutor said Tuesday in announcing murder, attempted murder and other charges for the shooting that killed one person and wounded five. Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer referred to David Chou, 68, as a monster whose rampage was thwarted by the heroic actions of a doctor who charged at him, a pastor who hit Chou with a chair and several parishioners who tied him up until police arrived. “This monster crafted a diabolical plan to lock the church doors with his victims inside in order to lead what he thought were innocent lambs to slaughter,” Spitzer said. “But what he didn’t realize was the parishioners at the church that day weren’t lambs – they were lions and they fought back against the evil that tried to infiltrate … [Read more...] about DA: Church gunman wanted to ‘execute’ as many as possible
