‘Awful Posts’ on Buffalo Wild Wings Twitter Account Came From Hacker, Company Says

· May 31, 2018 ·

A slew of racist and profane posts on the Buffalo Wild Wings branded Twitter account Friday was the result of a malicious hacker taking over the feed, the fried poultry franchise confirmed. The string of tweets began shortly after 6:30 p.m. CT and stood unchecked for about 20 minutes. They ranged from juvenile profanities to accusations against a fast food franchise. One included a bizarre and racially charged reminder that Madeleine McCann has been missing for nearly a decade. McCann is an English girl who went missing in Portugal when she was 3-years-old in 2007. “Buffalo Wild Wings’ Twitter account was hacked,” a spokesperson for the company said in an emailed statement. “We’re sorry that our fans had to see those awful posts, which obviously did not come from us. We are in touch with our Twitter representatives and will pursue the appropriate action against the individuals involved.” One of the tweets appeared to be an image of a young man or boy … [Read more...] about ‘Awful Posts’ on Buffalo Wild Wings Twitter Account Came From Hacker, Company Says

Buffalo Billion convictions pose challenges for Cuomo’s political future

· July 13, 2018 ·

ALBANY — He’s got the money and the name recognition. He’s got the power of incumbency and he leads a Democratic Party machine in one of the nation’s bluest states. But Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, as he heads into full-throttle mode in his re-election campaign for a third term, doesn’t have what he had in his first successful run for governor in 2010: a squeaky-clean administration. At a time when he is already facing a revolt from some within the liberal wing of his party, Cuomo now finds himself having to distance himself from people he once trusted to safeguard state resources and from one-time mega donors to his campaign who now are convicted felons. The moniker his advisors once regularly called him — the corruption-busting “Sheriff of Albany” — fell out of use long ago. It’s not a pretty picture. Cuomo’s once influential campaign manager and personal confidante, Joseph Percoco, is due to be sentenced in August after … [Read more...] about Buffalo Billion convictions pose challenges for Cuomo’s political future

Cuomo becomes infrequent visitor during Buffalo Billion scandal

· July 22, 2018 ·

When Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo notched his ninth Western New York appearance over six weeks in 2013, Buffalo Niagara Partnership President Dottie Gallagher-Cohen offered a telling observation about the area’s frequent visitor. “You’ve been here so often I almost think you should get a place here,” she quipped during an event that July. The governor appears to have no need for local housing in 2018. At a time when the words “Buffalo” and “Billion” are linked in negative headlines across the state, Cuomo’s westward forays are proving far less frequent – even in this election year. State records indicate the governor has made only one trip to the state’s second-largest city since November, and none since April. Cuomo has also found himself doing public events for as many days in the Caribbean as in Western New York the past 10 months. His absence coincided with the months leading up to a federal trial that ended with the guilty … [Read more...] about Cuomo becomes infrequent visitor during Buffalo Billion scandal

Future of ‘Buffalo Billion’ case at stake in court today

· July 2, 2018 ·

NEW YORK – The federal case charging developer Louis P. Ciminelli and other "Buffalo Billion" defendants with conspiracy and wire fraud will resume in a federal courtroom here today, with the judge in the case set to ponder whether the fraud charges should be tried in Manhattan in the first place. Four days after prosecutors closed their case against Ciminelli and former SUNY Polytechnic Institute leader Alain Kaloyeros – and then suddenly asked the judge to reopen it because they had somehow failed to submit key evidence – U.S. District Court Judge Valerie E. Caproni will hear arguments that could determine the future of the case. Monday's court session follows a weekend of legal activity in which lawyers for Ciminelli and Kaloyeros argued that wire fraud charges against the defendants should be dismissed, and prosecutors argued the case should continue based on evidence they plan to introduce in court now that their case has been reopened. At issue in Monday's court … [Read more...] about Future of ‘Buffalo Billion’ case at stake in court today

Obviousness Objections Based On Combinations Of References – Consistent Warnings From The CAFC

· August 31, 2011 ·

From: Paul Cole, Professor of Intellectual Property Law, Bournemouth University; Lucas & Co, Warlingham, UKThose prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO, the EPO and other examining patent offices confront on a daily basis objections of the kind: “A is known from X, B is known from Y; there was no invention in combining A with B.” Such objections are time-consuming to counter and often seem to a prosecuting attorney and his or her client less than reasonable. A sequence of recent decisions from the CAFC provides a clear indication that objections of this kind are being made too freely and too often. In re Arnold G. Klein decided 6thJune 2011 was a unanimous opinion of Judges Newman, Schall and Linn. It concerned a jug for mixing nectar having two compartments separated by a movable divider. Sugar (presumably in granular form) could be placed in one compartment and water in the other, after which the divider could be removed and a correct mixture for … [Read more...] about Obviousness Objections Based On Combinations Of References – Consistent Warnings From The CAFC
