Archant Two of Norfolk’s councils have agreed to work together more in future, in a scheme that could save them a combined £8.6m over the next five years. Cabinet members of both Broadland district and South Norfolk councils agreed to a co-operative approach behind the scenes, which could eventually see the two sharing a single team of officers. Following a 10-month feasibility study, members of both cabinets were briefed on the proposals, before individually agreeing the approach at their own meetings on Tuesday. The approach has now been recommended to the full councils, which meet later this month to decide whether to move forward with it. It is a move that will initially see the appointment of a joint managing director for the two councils, replacing the individual chief executives. Picture: South Norfolk Council Archant South Norfolk Council’s Pub of the Year competition has launched with residents now being able to vote for their favourite pub. This year the competition is returning for the 10th year. Deputy leader councillor Michael Edney said: “Ten years ago when we started this competition, pubs were closing at an alarming rate. “Pubs are at the heart of our communities, bringing people together, hosting events and clubs, raising money for charity and so much more and we don’t want to lose that. “If you’re passionate about your local and want to show them that you appreciate them, then vote for them.” The categories for the competition are; Outstanding Community Focus, Best Customer Service, Most Family Friendly and Tastiest Food and Drink. Picture: South Norfolk Council Archant A south Norfolk wide litter pick which saw thousands of bags of rubbish collected throughout the district has come to a close with the volunteers who took part recognised for their hard work. Around 2,000 people from 20 different groups, clubs and associations took part in South Norfolk Council’s Big Litter Pick 2018, between them organising more than 100 litter picks in villages and towns across the area. Now, in recognition of their efforts groups which took part in the litter pick have been awarded with gift voucher, and entered into a draw to win a share of a £4,000 prize fund. South Norfolk Council has split £50,000 between community groups. Picture: South Norfolk Council The council’s Community Action Fund met at the end of May to discuss how money should be shared between different groups. The panel considered 28 applications with 14 of those successfully securing funding from a £50,000 funding pit.
