Desperate grandad who fell victim to payday loan sharks offered just £4.50 compensation
A desperate grandad who fell victim to payday loan sharks was offered a pathetic compensation after being mis-sold loans. The 76-year-old said that the loans were a “quick fix” at the time but the sky-high interest rates they came with quickly spiralled into unmanageable debts. He racked up thousands of pounds worth of debt with the firm and accused the company of playing “on people’s misery” as they offered him up to a measly £4.50 in compensation for his mis-sold loans, the Liverpool Echo reports. Provident had been a part of a company called PFG who previously provided short-term guarantor and doorstep loans. TULSA, Okla. (AP) — The Latest on the final round of the PGA Championship (all times local): ___ 10:15 a.m. First-time major winners have been nothing new in golf during this next generation of stars. The PGA Championship is no exception. Mito Pereira of Chile has a three-shot lead going into the final round at Southern Hills. He is trying to become the first PGA Tour rookie since Keegan Bradley in the 2011 PGA Championship to win a major. Chasing him are Matt Fitzpatrick of England and Will Zalatoris. Neither has won a major. Fitzpatrick is a two-time Ryder Cup player from England. But he has only one top-10 finish in the 24 previous majors he has played as a pro. Zalatoris was runner-up in the Masters in 2021. Cameron Young had never made a cut in a major until this week. He’s four shots behind. Eight of the last 13 champions of the PGA had never won a major. IPL 2022 | RCB seal last playoff berth after MI beat DC by five wickets
Royal Challengers Bangalore sneeked into the play-offs after Mumbai Indians broke Delhi Capitals' heart with a five-wicket win in their last IPL match on Saturday. Already out of contention, MI played partypoopers as they first restricted DC to 159 for 7 with Jasprit Bumrah snapping three wickets and then returned to overhaul the target in 19.1 overs to knock the 2020 finalists out of the tournament. While Ishan Kishan (48) and Dewald Brevis (37) kept MI in the hunt, it was Tim David's 11-ball 34-run cameo that brought the five-time champions back into the chase. Tilak Varma also chipped in with a crucial 17-ball 21. With MI at 95 for 3 in 14.3 overs, DC skipper Rishabh Pant made a strategic blunder as he refused to go for DRS after David nicked the first ball of his innings but the onfield umpire didn't give him out. It came back to haunt DC as David slammed fours and sixes at will to bring down the equation to 15 off 14 balls. Ramandeep then provided the finishing touch … [Read more...] about IPL 2022 | RCB seal last playoff berth after MI beat DC by five wickets
‘I Stand Corrected’: Chidambaram ‘Takes Back’ Critique; K’taka ‘to Consider’ Further Cut | Reactions
Former Union minister P Chidambaram stated on Sunday that the facts of the central government’s fuel price tax reduction are “contrary” to what he had previously said. On Saturday, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an excise duty drop of Rs 8 per litre on petrol and Rs 6 per litre on diesel to bring down surging fuel prices caused by a rise in international crude oil prices due to Russia’s war in Ukraine. “The notification on reduction of duty on Petrol and Diesel is now available. FM used the words ‘Excise Duty’, but the reduction is in Additional Excise Duty which is not shared with the states. Hence, contrary to what I said yesterday, the entire burden of the reduction falls on the Centre. To that extent, I stand corrected,” Chidambaram said. The states are getting very little by way of share of duties on petrol and diesel, he said, noting that their revenue is from VAT on petrol and diesel. “I wonder if they can afford to give up that revenue unless the Centre … [Read more...] about ‘I Stand Corrected’: Chidambaram ‘Takes Back’ Critique; K’taka ‘to Consider’ Further Cut | Reactions
