Florida Christian school says it will only refer to students by ‘biological gender,’ asks gay and transgender students to leave
A religious school in Florida says it will only refer to students by their sex assigned at birth, while pupils who are gay, transgender or gender nonconforming "will be asked to leave the school immediately." NBC News obtained an email from the Grace Christian School in Valrico, about 20 miles east of Tampa, sent before the beginning of the school year by Administrator Barry McKeen. The subject line of the email reads: "Important School Policy Point of Emphasis. ... Please Read." The June 6 correspondence to parents cited scripture and said that students will be referred to by the "gender on their birth certificates" during the school year beginning this month. While the email refers to "biological gender," the National Institute of Health defines "gender" as a social construct, as opposed to "sex," which is the biological difference between females and males. "We believe that God created mankind in His image: male (man) and female (woman), sexually different but with … [Read more...] about Florida Christian school says it will only refer to students by ‘biological gender,’ asks gay and transgender students to leave
Online Safety Bill campaigners join forces to urge next prime minister to prioritise new legislation
A group of campaigners, survivors and families affected by abuse on social media have written to the Tory leadership candidates to urge the next prime minister to prioritise the Online Safety Bill. Danielle Armitage is one of those who have signed the open letter addressed to the candidates. She was only 14-years-old when she was groomed while playing an online interactive game for children. The man claimed to be 16 years old, however he was in fact in his late 40s at the time. Ms Armitage, who has waived her anonymity to warn others about what happened to her, told Sky News that initially "he arranged to meet me after school". "I got into his car and discovered that he was a lot older than what he said. I just froze from that point," she said. He drove Ms Armitage to a forest, and that's when the first sexual assault took place. Biden says US ‘will not walk away’ from West Asia
President Joe Biden, speaking at a summit of Arab leaders, said Saturday that the United States “will not walk away” from the Middle East as he tries to ensure stability in a volatile part of the world and boost the global flow of oil to reverse rising gas prices. His remarks, delivered at the Gulf Cooperation Council on the final leg of a four-day West Asian tour, came amid concerns about Iran's nuclear ambitions and support for militants in the region. “We will not walk away and leave a vacuum to be filled by China, Russia or Iran,” Mr. Biden said. "We will seek to build on this moment with active, principled, American leadership.” Although U.S. forces continue to target terrorists in the region and remain deployed at bases throughout the West Asia, Mr. Biden suggested he was turning a page after the U.S. invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. “Today, I’m proud to be able to say that the era of land wars in the region, wars that involved huge numbers of American forces, is not … [Read more...] about Biden says US ‘will not walk away’ from West Asia
As Switzerland Sees It
by CARL J. FRIEDRICH 1 BETWEEN the acts of the world première of Niobe a fashionable crowd gathered outside the Opera House at Zurich and looked across the lake Into an evening sky. Nothing in the attire or behavior of the crowd of well-dressed men and women suggested that anything whatever had happened since 1939, or that men, women, and children were starving a few hundred miles away. But the visitor looking across the square could notice that the grass seemed exceptionally long even for an uncut lawn. “I suppose the labor shortage is very severe in Switzerland?” “Yes, but why?” “Oh, just that that lawn there seems to have gone uncut for a long time.” “But that is no lawn, it is a wheat field.” In the very heart of this thriving industrial city, unbelievably prosperous and peaceful, wheat is grown to stretch the short rations. This is no isolated instance; it is a practice common throughout Switzerland to use every square inch of land for food production. The Swiss … [Read more...] about As Switzerland Sees It
Giants QB Daniel Jones reveals he had ‘non-football related’ neck procedure during the offseason
Giants quarterback Daniel Jones revealed on Thursday that he underwent a “non-football related procedure” on his neck “early in the winter.” Jones said the previously undisclosed surgery was “completely unrelated” to the “neck strain” that prematurely ended his 2021 NFL season after a Week 12 injury in Philadelphia. A small scar at the bottom of Jones’ neck, in a photo circulated on social media, prompted a question about whether he’d had surgery to correct last season’s injury. “No, I didn’t. I didn’t at all,” he said. “I had a non-football related procedure done on my neck. I saw there was some [speculation] about it [online]. But it was completely unrelated. I feel good. Neck’s great.” Jones added that the surgery happened “early in the winter” and reiterated that it was “unrelated” to last season’s injury. The press conference was cut off at that point, and he took no more questions on the topic. It’s unheard of nowadays for an NFL team to successfully keep a surgery … [Read more...] about Giants QB Daniel Jones reveals he had ‘non-football related’ neck procedure during the offseason

Dobaaraa Review: Anurag Kashyap, Taapsee Pannu’s Time-Space Continuum Disruption Tale Will Hook You
The film of the week is Anurag Kashyap’s Dobaaraa, starring the amazing Taapsee Pannu in the lead. Kashyap has been a director who takes forward his own stories and thoughts, so the fact that he is making a remake really made me curious as to what could have been so appealing about the story. The film is the official remake of a Spanish film called Mirage, which (thankfully) I had not watched and therefore went for Dobaaraa with a clear mind. And boy, the film turned out to be really engaging! Taapsee Pannu plays the character of Antara, a nurse who moves to a new town with her husband and six-year-old daughter. The house they are in currently belonged to a boy, Anay, and his mother. However, there was an unfortunate incident, that changed this. But somehow, a time portal was unintentionally opened, that of course changed realities, and left Antara looking for answers and totally confused. But will she be able to find her answer, and reverse the disturbance in the time space … [Read more...] about Dobaaraa Review: Anurag Kashyap, Taapsee Pannu’s Time-Space Continuum Disruption Tale Will Hook You
