Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — More researches on labour, social issues and labour market supply and demand should be conducted and more instruction should be given to vocational training. This was said by Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Đào Ngọc Dung on Tuesday afternoon at a conference of the Institute of Labour Science and Social Affairs (ILSSA). Dung said the researches and instruction would help reduce the unemployment problem of recent years. At present, the country has some 54 million workers and nearly 2,000 vocational training centres and schools. However, many schools cannot enrol trainees. And many trainees do not get a job after graduating from the schools, so unemployment remains high. Yesterday, UCLA Law School Professor Stephen Bainbridge noted the publication of a recent study that reaches some devastating conclusions for public pension funds. The study by Professor Tracie Woidtke at the University of Tennessee found that “public pension funds’ ownership is associated with lower firm value”. To make matters even worse, Professor Woidtke found:Social-issue shareholder-proposal activism appears to be negatively related to firm value.
