Ukrainian defenders light up sky with flurry of rockets
Ukrainian defenders fired a flurry of rockets into the night sky to extend what they called a "fiery greeting" to their Russian counterparts. The attack was reportedly carried out by members of the 59th Motorized Brigade, named after Yakov Gandziuk, a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. The Ukrainian military said they sent a "fiery greeting" to the Russians to show them how "brightly Ukrainian artillery shines" in the night sky. In the official footage, defending soldiers are seen sending a barrage of rockets into the air from the safety of their foxhole. The Ukrainian Center for Strategic Communications (StratCom) said on May 26: "That's how brightly Ukrainian artillery shines for the occupiers! "The fiery greeting was conveyed to the enemy by the 59th separate motorized infantry brigade named after Yakov Gandziuk. "We never get tired of looking at the work of our defenders, we believe in the Armed Forces." Russians show off artillery’s firepower over Ukraine in video
The Russian military documented the tremendous firepower of Soviet 2S7M Malka self-propelled artillery as it discharged projectiles into the sky over Ukraine. The official video shows how Russian troops are dwarfed by the huge guns, which pack a blast so powerful it can physically incapacitate an unprepared soldier or crew member near it from concussive force. Zenger News obtained the clip Friday from the Ministry of Defense (MoD) of the Russian Federation, which said (in Russian): "Combat work of crews of self-propelled artillery mounts of high power 2S7M 'Malka.'" "'Malka' has a 203 mm caliber gun and is designed to solve special tasks - suppression and elimination of especially protected command posts, artillery, mortars, armored vehicles, rear areas, enemy manpower. "The rate of fire of the gun is up to 2.5 rounds per minute, the range is about 50 kilometers. "Modern Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles are used for timely target detection, data transmission and fire … [Read more...] about Russians show off artillery’s firepower over Ukraine in video
Russian fighter jet shot down by Ukrainian air force in dogfight
A Russian fighter jet was shot down by the Ukrainian air force in an aerial battle Friday afternoon, according to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. "Today, May 27, at about 2 pm, a MiG-29 fighter of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down a Russian Su-35 fighter in the sky of Kherson region," the air force said in a statement. The Su-35, it added, was "hunting for Ukrainian assault aircraft." "Glory to Ukrainian pilots! Death to the occupiers!" the statement proclaimed. The dogfight is the latest blow to Russia's offensive in Ukraine, which has failed to defeat the Ukrainians' military resistance since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the invasion on February 24. The air war in particular has gone badly. "The Russian Air Force still shows no sign of running a campaign to gain air superiority," retired British Air Marshal Edward Stringer previously told Newsweek . Last week, Su-35 fighter jets like the one shot down Friday bombed Ukrainian targets, … [Read more...] about Russian fighter jet shot down by Ukrainian air force in dogfight

In Seoni, the blood trail of a lynching
P hoolwati breaks down when she speaks of her husband Dhansha Invati, who was killed by a mob earlier this month. “I kept pleading with them to at least tell me where they were taking him. And to show me the cow meat that he had been accused of possessing. But what I received instead were blows and abuses,” she says. On the night of May 2-3, Phoolwati and Dhansha had been fast asleep outside their kaccha house in Simariya village in the Kurai block of Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh. It was when she heard thudding sounds that Phoolwati woke up to see a group of men assaulting her husband. Their elder son Jai Prakash, who lives next door, also rushed out on hearing the commotion. He pleaded with the mob to let Dhansha go, but the men paid no heed. Threats from the mob forced Phoolwati and Jai Prakash to retreat to their homes. The men took Dhansha away. Phoolwati and her son are unsure of how old he was; they reckon he was “upwards of 50”. Also Read Anti mob-lynching … [Read more...] about In Seoni, the blood trail of a lynching
