COVID mortality rate rising in Kerala
Nearly a month after the State’s COVID-19 graph began to rise, the COVID mortality rate is beginning to look really stark, questioning the narrative that Omicron causes only a mild illness. In the month of June alone, the State has recorded 151 COVID-19 deaths, leaving aside the numbers being added on through appeals to the official COVID toll. Singapore DPM says that country is facing resurgence in Covid-19 cases; govt cannot rule out tightening virus measures
SINGAPORE, June 27 (Bloomberg): Singapore cannot rule out tightening Covid-19 restrictions again as it faces a resurgence in cases, though authorities expect to "ride through this wave” without having to do so, the Straits Times reported, citing deputy prime minister Lawrence Wong. Wong’s comments, made to local reporters at a tour of a vaccination center Monday, comes on the back of warnings from ministers that the city-state will see another rise in infections, with calls for the elderly to take their booster shots. Separately, local broadcaster CNA quoted Wong saying that adjustments to measures will be made "if need be” and the government will be monitoring factors including the hospital situation and severity of the disease closely. The financial hub has loosened many pandemic-related rules, including scrapping testing for vaccinated travelers and gathering limits, though some exceptions like mandatory wearing of masks indoors remain. Still, even as sectors like aviation … [Read more...] about Singapore DPM says that country is facing resurgence in Covid-19 cases; govt cannot rule out tightening virus measures
No tightening of Covid-19 measures in Singapore but it can’t be ruled out
SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): There is no need to tighten safe management measures for now but this cannot be ruled out as more Covid-19 infections are reported, said Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Stressing the need for vigilance and testing, he announced that all households will receive 10 ART test kits. Distribution will begin sometime next month. Speaking to reporters after touring a mobile vaccination centre at Nee Soon Central, Wong said that the uptick in the number of infections is driven by the newer BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron sub-variants. "We should expect cases to continue to rise", he said. While there is no evidence yet that the current infections are more severe, and with hospitals still able to cope with the situation, Singapore should be able to "ride through this wave" without having to tighten existing rules. But the situation is fluid, said Wong, who was with Health Minister Ong Ye Kung. On Tuesday (June 21), the Health Ministry said … [Read more...] about No tightening of Covid-19 measures in Singapore but it can’t be ruled out
