Iraqi leaders, fearing that a further shortfall in power would lead to mass protests and political instability in their electricity-starved country, are pushing back on the demand, which is rooted in President Trump’s sanctions against Iran. The dispute has frayed American diplomacy with Baghdad as Iraq tries to steady itself after the United States military withdrawal in 2011 and the campaign against the Islamic State. Iraq’s defiance further jeopardizes Mr. Trump’s goal of … [Read more...] about Iraq Rebuffs U.S. Demands to Stop Buying Energy From Iran

Siemens’ mega-project in Egypt completed in record time, benefits more people
Viet Nam News CAIRO, Egypt — “I am very proud to be a Vietnamese engineer working on Siemens’ biggest project ever,” said Nguyễn Chí Hiếu, one of three Vietnamese commissioning engineers trained to work at Beni Suef power plant in Egypt, where he tests the plant’s systems. The project Hiếu referred to is the US$9 billion deal reached by Siemens and the Egyptian government to build three gas-fired combined cycle power plants in three different regions in the country. The project was expected to lift the country’s capacity of power generation by 45 per cent compared to its installed base in 2015 by adding 14.4GW of power generation capacity to Egypt’s national grid, which would help address the electricity shortage in the country. Egyptian people had experienced frequent and lengthy power cuts and blackouts since 2010, said Emad Ghaly, CEO of Siemens Egypt. At the peak of electricity crisis, … [Read more...] about Siemens’ mega-project in Egypt completed in record time, benefits more people
Siemens eyes Asian markets to boost power generation business
By Koustav Samanta SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Siemens Power Generation Services, a unit of Germany's Siemens AG <SIEGn.DE>, is looking to Asian markets to grow its power generation business, the company's Chief Executive Officer Tim Holt said on Tuesday at a conference in Singapore. "There are a couple of IPP (independent power producer) projects especially in the ASEAN region, clearly there are markets in Thailand and Malaysia, while Korea's new government is getting ready to have the next wave of investments," Holt said. Siemens, like its main competitors in the natural gas-turbine market sector General Electric and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, have been hit hard by a drop in turbine sales in the last few years, forcing all three to lay off thousands of workers as renewables are competing with gas as a power source. "Both Pakistan and Bangladesh are in discussion. There's also discussion on gas to power," Holt said on the sidelines of Singapore International Energy Week 2018. … [Read more...] about Siemens eyes Asian markets to boost power generation business
Siemens eyes Asia as key market for advanced turbine sales
Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Siemens has identified Asia as an important future market as the rapidly developing region is in need of efficient and cost-effective power generation technologies – an area in which the German engineering giant prides itself as a leading global supplier. Thomas Hagedorn, head of sales for the Asia and Pacific region of the Siemens power and gas division, said Siemens’s latest HL-class turbines would be the right solution for many countries in Asia. Bloomberg’s 2017 energy outlook forecasts the continent will need to have the world’s highest power by 2040 to meet development demands. Introduced to the market last September, the HL-class gas turbines combine a series of new but tested technologies to enhance the efficiency of combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) to beyond 63 per cent. With a mid-term goal to reach CCGT efficiency of 65 per cent, Siemens may surpass its arch rival GE, which … [Read more...] about Siemens eyes Asia as key market for advanced turbine sales
