It wasn’t anything fancy; a few guys and gals hooted and hollered over beers in the corner of the bar, duking it out in pairs of two, either in front of a tiny TV or a projector screen. Suspects in David Ortiz Shooting Expected in Court Friday
At least nine people have been arrested in connection to what officials are investigating as a sophisticated plot to murder beloved retired Red Sox player David Ortiz, according to Dominican Republic National Police. On Thursday, Dominican authorities brought in five suspects from Wednesday along with a handful of additional suspects, including a woman. The nine were rushed to the court in a police pickup truck accompanied by heavily armed police for their first appearance, during which charges will be presented against them so they can continue to be held. Nine suspects in the shooting of retired Red Sox legend David Ortiz are expected to make court appearances Friday and could be ordered held for up to 18 months while the case is pending, according to authorities. Robert D. Chain, 68, was arrested on Thursday at his home in Encino, Ca. The F.B.I. said Mr. Chain owned several firearms and had recently purchased a small-caliber rifle. According to federal documents, Mr. Chain began calling The Boston Globe immediately after the newspaper announced on Aug. 10 that it would publish a coordinated editorial response to political attacks on the media. Three people, including the shooter David Katz who was a Madden competitor in the past, were killed in the incident, while many others were left injured.Taylor Robertson, 22, and Elijah Clayton, 27, were the two victims of the shooting, both of whom were competing in the qualifiers.
