Associated Press/Fareed Khan The family of 18-year-old Sabika Sheikh, an exchange student from Pakistan who was killed in the Santa Fe high-school shooting on Friday, said they believed she would be safe in the US. Sheikh left Pakistan last August and was set to return home in just a few weeks for Eid al-Fitr. Sheikh and nine other people were killed in the shooting, and another 10 people were injured. Parkland shooting survivors bring March for Our Lives tour to Oakland

The rising senior, 16, knew right away following the Valentine’s Day massacre in Parkland, Florida, that he couldn’t sit idly by without turning the anger and fear he felt that day into action. He was one of several students from the school who stopped by Oakland on Sunday as part of a national bus tour, called “March for Our Lives: Road to Change,” to speak out against gun violence and advocate for stricter gun-control laws nationally. The tour, which began on June 15 in Chicago, offers a chance to meet with other organizers and register people to vote.
