Pakistan shoots down two Indian warplanes, military says

News / World by Press Association 27/02/2019, 7:18 am Updated: 27/02/2019, 7:46 am Send us a story Sign up to our Daily newsletter Pakistan’s air force has shot down two Indian warplanes after they crossed the boundary between the two nuclear-armed rivals in the disputed territory of Kashmir, a military spokesman said. The dramatic escalation came hours after Pakistan said mortar shells fired by Indian troops from across the frontier dividing the two sectors of Kashmir killed six civilians and wounded several others. Major General Asif Ghafoor said Pakistani troops on the ground captured an Indian pilot. One of the downed planes crashed in Pakistan’s part of Kashmir while the other went down in Indian-controlled section of the Himalayan region, he said. Indian air force spokesman Anupam Banerjee in New Delhi said he had no information on Pakistan’s statement. Does Mexican Boy Who Was Shot by Agent Across Border Have Constitutional Rights?

U.S. and Mexico, the Supreme Court has decided to rule on whether, in a legal sense, one already exists.  SCOTUS has granted certiorari in Hernandez v. Mesa – a case in which a U.S. Border Control guard fatally shot an unarmed Mexican boy who had been playing at the U.S.-Mexico border in a dried-up portion of the Rio Grande. The boys had been playing a game in which they dared each other to run up the culvert’s northern incline, touch the U.S. fence, and then scamper back down to the bottom. Officer Jesus Mesa, Jr. fired the fatal shot from the American side, and fifteen year-old Sergio Hernández Guereca died sixty feet away, in Mexico.Sergio’s parents have now sueed Agent Mesa in U.S. federal court, alleging that Mesa violated the Constitution by using excessive force. We'll be bringing you live updates throughout the day. SUMMARY With 99 percent of votes counted by 6pm on Monday, the centre-right bloc had 37 percent, the Five Star Movement had nearly 33 percent, and the centre-left had just short of 23 percent. Final turnout was confirmed at 73 percent. The League was the biggest party in the centre-right bloc and its leader, Matteo Salvini, said he was committed to forming a coalition with his campaign allies. The Five Star Movement is also determined to form a government and said it was open to all partners, though Salvini ruled out an alliance between the two populist forces.
