Eli Rosenberg and Mark Berman, The Washington Post Published 5:43 pm, Wednesday, May 2, 2018 The officers sweep the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on their way up to the gunman's suite on the 32nd floor, telling patrons to leave and head south away from the shooting. They arrive at the room and blow open double doors into it from the hall, only to find the suspect dead in a pool of blood in the darkened room - the blinds are all closed tightly - from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. Guns are strewn around the room. They take note of the wires that web throughout the room, but relax when they see that they're linked to an elaborate camera system: they see one perched on a service cart outside the room, and another attached over the peephole. "He has an intricate camera system set up," one of the first officers to arrive in the suite observes, "so he knew when officers were coming down the hallway." The footage, seen publicly for the first time on Wednesday, was … [Read more...] about Las Vegas police release video footage recorded inside gunman Paddock’s hotel suite
Shooting on las vegas strip
Mark Berman, The Washington Post Published 4:18 pm, Wednesday, May 16, 2018 The bullets were still tearing across the concert venue when people began to drop to the ground. They were at a country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip, among more than 22,000 packed together watching Jason Aldean perform when the gunfire began. Many people who were there on Oct. 1 said they didn't even realize it was gunfire at first. It sounded more like firecrackers, they said. But as a lone gunman inside his 32nd-floor suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino continued to fire, people began to panic, flee or seek shelter by falling to the ground. "I was with my best friend . . . and I held her hand and we were holding hands with other people that we don't even know," one survivor, who said she got shot in her arm, later told police. "And I told her, 'Call your mom, call your dad.' Mark Berman, The Washington Post Published 6:30 pm PST, Tuesday, January 29, 2019 The gunman who killed 58 people in Las Vegas in 2017 was not fueled by any "single or clear motivating factor," the FBI said, mirroring the conclusions of local police who said they could not determine what motivated the massacre. The FBI findings made public Tuesday come more than a year after the Oct. 1, 2017, massacre at a country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip. According to police, gunman Stephen Paddock opened fire from a 32nd-floor suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, killing dozens and injuring hundreds more before shooting himself in the head. After the massacre -- the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history -- investigators delved into Paddock's life before the gunfire. They pored over his finances, spoke to people who knew him and studied his movements. In the end, the Las Vegas police said in a report last summer, these investigators said they could not … [Read more...] about Las Vegas shooter was not driven by any ‘single or clear motivating factor,’ FBI says
