After US President Donald Trump's top aide defended contested figures about his inauguration as "alternative facts", Deutsche Bahn decided to present an alternative reality of its own. It didn't take long into Trump's new presidency for him to become embroiled in yet another battle of truth with journalists, this time over how many people attended his inauguration in Washington, DC on Friday. Trump claimed on Saturday that he saw “a million, a million and a half people” in the crowd, but photos comparing Barack Obama's first inauguration in 2009 - in which an estimated 1.8 million people attended - showed Trump's crowd to be vastly smaller. British crowd scientists told The New York Times that there were about 160,000 people in the crowd leading up to Trump's speech. Trump's top aide Kellyanne Conway later called the president's claims “alternative facts”. So Germany's Deutsch Bahn rail service decided to get in on the … [Read more...] about Germany’s train service just trolled Trump super hard
In a press release issued on Saturday, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made it clear that no essential service or benefit shall be denied to a genuine beneficiary for the want of Aadhaar whether it is medical help, hospitalisation, school admission or ration through PDS.This clarification through a press release comes when the Constitution bench of the Supreme Court is hearing the validity of Aadhaar Act. Senior advocates Shyam Divan and Kapil Sibal had elaborately argued before the Supreme Court against Aadhaar and the violation of privacy rights due to it.Quoting Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act, the authority said the act of some service providers denying essential and other services for want of Aadhaar are punishable under respective laws of the land. Under no circumstance, anyone can be denied a service just because he/she doesn’t have an Aadhaar, it said. The authority said it has taken a ‘serious note’ of some of the cases reported in media … [Read more...] about No One Can Be Denied A Service Just Because He/She Doesn’t Have An Aadhaar, Says UIDAI
The Internal Revenue Service just rolled out significant and immediate relief in Revenue Procedure 2016-47 for people who miss the 60-day rollover deadline (i.e., the deadline for completing a rollover when the rollover amount is first paid to the taxpayer before it is contributed to an eligible retirement plan or an IRA). If certain requirements are met, the new relief permits people to make a self-certification that they are eligible for a waiver of the deadline. This relief is particularly welcome considering that in February the IRS dramatically increased the user fee for requesting a private letter ruling under Revenue Procedure 2003-16 to waive the 60-day rollover requirement to $10,000. As such, for many people with rollover problems where an automatic waiver was unavailable under Revenue Procedure 2003-16, it no longer made economic sense to even think about getting a waiver, since the income tax consequences of the rollover failure often would be less than the cost of the user … [Read more...] about Internal Revenue Service Rollover Relief Rolls Out!
Tinder, a popular mobile dating app, recently shut down an ad campaign from Gap, stating that the campaign violated the app's terms of service. Gap's failure to comply with Tinder's terms of service is a cautionary tale for advertising on social media platforms. With each new social media platform that captivates consumers, brands are aggressively expanding their advertising efforts to meet consumers on these platforms. For creative brands, this sometimes leads to engaging in native advertising, or advertising that takes on the form of a platform's content. For example, Facebook is a platform that allows for both traditional and native advertising. On the one hand, brands can advertise on Facebook by purchasing ad space on the platform, similar to how they would purchase ad space in a magazine. On the other hand, brands can create and advertise on their own Facebook brand pages, which are similar to user pages in how they look and deliver content.Native advertising is especially crucial … [Read more...] about Tinder Swipes Left on Gap’s New Ad Campaign: A Reminder to Always Check Terms of Service
A fact-check just punctured a huge hole in one of the president’s personal lawyers’ latest justifications. On Sunday, attorney Jay Sekulow suggested if Donald J. Trump, Jr.‘s June 9, 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer was a problem, then the Secret Service would’ve stopped it. But a Secret Service spox said they weren’t even protecting him at the time.Sekulow said on This Week: “I’ve wondered why the Secret Service––if this was nefarious, why’d the Secret Service allow these people in?” He said the president himself was a protectee at the time.Reuters reached out to Secret Service for comment. They got an answer on Sunday: That protection didn’t extend to the son.“Donald Trump, Jr. was not a protectee of the USSS in June, 2016,” spokesman Mason Brayman wrote in an email. “Thus we would not have screened anyone he was meeting with at that time.”Starting July … [Read more...] about Secret Service Just Slapped Down Trump Lawyer, They Wouldn’t Have Screened Jr.’s Russia Meeting
