WASHINGTON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Barack Obama and two members of his cabinet were among the targets of suspected package bombs delivered to high-profile Democrats and CNN in what New York officials on Wednesday branded an act of terrorism. The suspicious parcels, at least five in all, were intercepted before any reached their intended recipients, who included former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Attorney General Eric Holder and former CIA director John Brennan, the FBI said. None of the packages detonated, and nobody was hurt. There was no immediate claim of responsibility. But news of the threats heightened tensions in a nation deeply polarized ahead of elections on Nov. 6 that will decide whether Democrats take control of one or both houses of Congress from Republicans and deny President Donald Trump the majority his party now holds in both. By Paul Blumenthal The new political ad database Facebook unveiled last month has already exposed previously hidden politicking by campaigns and political action committees. But it’s also ensnaring news sites, podcasts and nonprofits whose ads aren’t political — and highlighting the problems inherent in having a private company regulate political speech. Sean Guillory ran into problems with the new policy when he tried to advertise an episode of his Russian history podcast. Jon Tester to resign on Saturday via Twitter, after internal records raised doubts about allegations that led White House physician Ronny Jackson to withdraw as a nominee to head the Veterans Affairs Department. Current and former colleagues alleged that Jackson had freewheeling prescribing practices, drank on the job and claimed he “got drunk and wrecked a government vehicle” at a Secret Service going-away party, according to the office of Tester, who represents Montana.
