How many mass shootings have there been in the US in 2018? There is no widely accepted definition of a mass shooting. A 2013 report from the Congressional Research Service described mass shootings as those in which gunmen "select victims somewhat indiscriminately" and kill four or more people in the same incident. That measure would exclude gang shootings and domestic incidents in which a gunman kills several family members. The not-for-profit group Gun Violence Archive defines a mass shooting as any in which four or more people are shot, including those who are injured but survive, and not including the shooter. By this measure it records 154 mass shootings in the USA in the first 178 days of the year, the latest being the Capital Gazette massacre in Maryland on June 28. The kids are in their late 30s now, the second-graders who survived when a young woman burst into their classroom in Winnetka in May 1988 and opened fire, killing one student and wounding five others. It wasn’t the first school shooting in America, but at the time it was the most disturbing — a nightmare visited upon a wealthy suburban enclave that dominated the national news for several days.A disturbed daughter of privilege, Laurie Dann, 30, first went on a rampage through the North Shore, leaving poisoned traps and setting a fire. The plot was foiled when Angela McDevitt, a 17-year-old acquaintance of Sawyer's from upstate New York, was texting with him on the day of the Parkland, Florida, shooting. McDevitt thought a mutual friend of theirs might have been a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. "I went to Jack, and I … [Read more...] about Charges dropped against teen accused of threatening school shooting in Vermont
