June 23, 2022 by www.sfgate.com

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 17 PARIS (AP) — Blurring the line between fashion and performance, the Japanese house of Issey Miyake for Homme Plisse used a troupe of acrobats who contorted, danced and seemingly courted death for a spectacular Paris Fashion Week men’s show. Here are some highlights of Thursday’s spring-summer 2023 shows in Paris. DEATH-DEFYING FASHION In eye-popping hues inspired by flowers and vases, models mingled with performers inside the newly renovated La Poste du Louvre for this unusual and sensitive showcase of fashion designs through dance. From a hidden ledge high above the courtyard runway, a dancing troupe suddenly stood up mid-show to gasps from the audience. In pastel colored, loosely-fitting pleated garments the performers then climbed down ladders, before performing death-defying leaps, falls and … [Read more...] about Paris Fashion Week blurs line between runway and performance

"Today, we were forced to file a lawsuit against Hailey Bieber and her new skin-care line that launched last week and that is using the brand 'Rhode,'" they wrote in a public statement. "We didn't want to file this lawsuit, but we had to in order to protect our business." It’s personal: Canelo predicts KO in 3rd bout with Golovkin

June 24, 2022 by www.sfgate.com

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 LOS ANGELES (AP) — Canelo Álvarez is hurting after his first loss in nearly a decade, and he's still angry about everything that's happened during five years of fighting and arguing with Gennady Golovkin. Álvarez says he is determined to channel all of those bad feelings into a spectacular knockout win over Golovkin when they complete their rivalry trilogy on Sept. 17 in Las Vegas. The Mexican superstar declared his third fight with Golovkin to be a grudge match Friday as they began promoting their showdown with a news conference in Hollywood. Álvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) was beaten in stunning fashion by light heavyweight Dmitry Bivol seven weeks ago, but he guaranteed he will “definitely” punch the 40-year-old Golovkin into retirement by stopping him for the first time in his career. “(It will be) so sweet,” Álvarez said. “For me, it’s going to be very satisfying because of … [Read more...] about It’s personal: Canelo predicts KO in 3rd bout with Golovkin

“Vogue” slammed for Kate Middleton “white power suit” post on Windrush Day

June 23, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

British Vogue has been criticized online for publishing a story titled Kate Middleton Revisits Her Favorite White Power Suit on a day that the royal unveiled a monument to the Windrush generation . The Windrush generation is a term used to describe migrants who were encouraged to settle in Britain between 1948 and 1973 to aid in the country's post-war recovery. These migrants—the majority of whom came from the Caribbean—were at the center of a U.K political scandal in 2017 after it emerged that, owing to stricter immegration enforcement, thousands had been wrongly classed as illegal immigrants with a number being deported. Both William and Kate unveiled the national monument at Waterloo Station on Wednesday with the prince giving a powerful speech in which he addressed the "racism" faced by the Windrush generation when they arrived in Britain and said that "discrimination remains an all too familiar experience for black men and women in Britain in 2022." Sadhguru Writes: Farmers Need Incentives, Not Teachings

June 23, 2022 by www.news18.com

Soil is the very basis of life. The 12-15 inches of topsoil is the basis for 87% of the life on this planet, including ourselves. Plants, birds, animals, insects and worms — all thrive on the richness of the topsoil. But in the last 100-150 years, we have destroyed over 50% of this precious soil, which generates 95% of our food. For any soil to have agricultural potential, it must have a minimum of 3-6% organic content. But 62% of India’s land has organic content of less than 0.5% and is on the verge of desertification. In northern Europe, the organic content is somewhere around 2%, and in southern Europe, it is a shade over 1%. In the United States, 30% of the topsoil is simply gone. About 51 million square kilometers of land, which is over 50% of the usable land on the planet, is under agriculture right now. This is a land which human beings are tending to every day. So, this is the land we should first turn around, and it is possible to do it if we take the necessary steps. … [Read more...] about Sadhguru Writes: Farmers Need Incentives, Not Teachings

View from the choir loft: the Museum of Christian Art reopens in Goa

June 23, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

Ever since my move to Goa a few years ago, I have haunted abandoned houses and museums and pored over literature in an attempt to understand my new home. The Museum of Christian Art (MoCA) in Velha, North Goa , with its confluence of cultures, was high on this list. But it was inaccessible — closed for renovation since 2017. So, when it reopened in May, visitors like me were quick to take the ferry from Salim Ali National Park to a jetty in Old Goa to spend an afternoon there. The 17th century Convent of Santa Monica (within which is housed the MoCA) sits neatly in a depression amidst the hills, its large buttresses reaching out like a hand. The few remaining laterite walls of the nearby St Augustine Monastery ruins cast shifting shadows over it. You walk along the austere building to a little door at the far end of the wall, visible only because of the large brass name plate. The collection at MoCA | Photo Credit: Aaron Monteiro The Virgin on a lotus I have always … [Read more...] about View from the choir loft: the Museum of Christian Art reopens in Goa
