August 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

The "cute" moment where Prince Harry saw Kate Middleton walking down the aisle on the day of her royal wedding from 11 years ago has gone viral after being shared on social media. The clip showing Harry as he stood beside brother William at the altar of Westminster Abbey in 2011 has gained over 1 million views since it was uploaded to video-sharing platform TikTok, receiving in excess of 180,000 likes. The video's upload by the TikTok user danideeeee1 with the caption "cute moment" comes as news that Harry, alongside his wife Meghan Markle , will travel to Britain in early September to take part in a number of charity events. A spokesperson for the Sussexes announced on Monday: "Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are delighted to visit with several charities close to their hearts in early September." Royal watchers hoping to see a reunion between Harry and brother William may be disappointed, as royal commentators have ruled out a meeting as … [Read more...] about Prince Harry’s reaction to Kate Middleton at royal wedding goes viral

Boston, ‘cradle of the American Revolution,’ wants to cancel another founding father

August 15, 2022 by www.foxnews.com

close Video Abby Hornacek takes part in Boston's patriotic history Fox Nation host Abby Hornacek looks back at Boston's patriotic history ahead of July 4th. NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles! As a son of Boston, I was saddened, but not remotely shocked, to read that liberal protesters had recently gathered at Faneuil Hall to demand that the mayor and other officials change the name of Faneuil Hall, an historic landmark first built 280 years ago. Why?  Because these liberal protesters have declared the building a symbol of "White supremacy." I am not shocked, because I just spent the last year of my life writing a book seeking to protect the founding fathers, July Fourth, and our ever dwindling rights and liberties from the woke, cancel culture mob. The issue, quite expectedly, comes down to the subject of slavery. PROTESTORS DEMAND BOSTON OFFICIALS CHANGE FANEUIL HALL'S NAME: 'A WHITE SUPREMACIST' Peter … [Read more...] about Boston, ‘cradle of the American Revolution,’ wants to cancel another founding father

William’s Diana Panorama ban could lead to “slow rewriting” of her story

August 4, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Prince William's insistence that Princess Diana's bombshell 1995 BBC Panorama interview should "never be aired again" could lead to the "slow rewriting" of her life story, according to a royal biographer. Omid Scobie, co-author of the hit Harry and Meghan biography Finding Freedom , has expressed his concern that the suppression of Diana's own words in the 1995 interview—which she later said she had "no regrets" in doing—has seen the princess once again being "silenced" by the royal "Firm". Scobie's commentary in a recent column for Yahoo! News follows the BBC 's official apology about its conduct in handling allegations of wrongdoing in the methods used to obtain the interview with Diana. These were exposed in a review undertaken by Lord Dyson in 2021 which found BBC staff member Martin Bashir had been "deceitful" in his conduct regarding the interview. In a statement issued on July 21, after it was announced that the former nanny of Prince William and Prince … [Read more...] about William’s Diana Panorama ban could lead to “slow rewriting” of her story

Genetics company wants to bring iconic Tasmanian tiger back from extinction

August 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Colossal Biosciences—the Dallas-based company attempting to revive the woolly mammoth—has announced that it has started working on the de-extinction of the thylacine, better known as the Tasmanian tiger. Tasmanian tigers, which were native to the Australian mainland, Tasmania and New Guinea, appeared around 4 million years ago and were the largest living carnivorous marsupial until the time of their extinction. One of Australia's most iconic species, the thylacine population declined dramatically on the mainland, likely as a result of hunting by humans and competition with the dingo, leading to its disappearance there at least 2,000 years ago, according to the Australian Museum. The species persisted on the Australian island of Tasmania—located around 150 miles to the south of the mainland—into the 20th century. But numbers also declined here as well, with persecution by European settlers, who considered it a pest, probably playing a key role, alongside other threats such as … [Read more...] about Genetics company wants to bring iconic Tasmanian tiger back from extinction

HBO’s Diana documentary defends use of Panorama clips condemned by William

August 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

The team behind the feature-length HBO documentary of Princess Diana's life story as told through the lens of the media has defended using clips from her polarizing 1995 Panorama interview as " a moment of historical record," despite Prince William saying it should "never be aired again." The documentary titled The Princess, currently available to stream on HBO Max, has been released to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Diana's death on August 31, 1997 in a high-speed Paris car crash. A chronological assessment of the media's love/hate relationship with the royal, the documentary provoked a wave of discussion among viewers, many of whom drew comparisons between the treatment of Diana and that of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Included in among the reproduced contemporary news and interview footage are large segments from Diana's 1995 interview with Martin Bashir for BBC 's Panorama news show. The interview delivered many royal bombshells including the … [Read more...] about HBO’s Diana documentary defends use of Panorama clips condemned by William

Princess Diana was “a mother at odds with the crown”—James Patterson

August 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Princess Diana has been described as a "mother at odds with the crown" who wanted Prince William and Prince Harry to grow up as "normal kids," according to bestselling U.S. author James Patterson. Speaking to Fox News Digital ahead of the release of his new book, Diana, William, and Harry , co-authored with Chris Mooney, Patterson said the princess "tried to control" and was "troubled by" the feeling that Harry would grow up labeled as "the spare" while William was destined to become king. The release of the book, which focuses on Diana's life as a mother, comes with the 25th anniversary on August 31 of her death at the age of 36 in a Paris car crash. "I think she tried to control it as much as she could," Patterson told Fox News Digital while speaking about Harry's and William's different positions in the line to the British throne. "I think she was troubled about it. That's a standard thing for families. One of the kids who do better in school or become a better … [Read more...] about Princess Diana was “a mother at odds with the crown”—James Patterson

After six decades, village in Ballari district gets freedom from administrative hurdles

August 15, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

For Thippanamaradi village at Sandur taluk in Ballari district, the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (75 years of India’s Independence) means more than what it does to rest of the country. For, it is true liberation from the administrative hurdles that its inhabitants had been facing for the last six decades in handling their land records. With their land records settled just a couple of days ahead of the Independence Day, these villages of the erstwhile Sandur Princely State are now gearing up to celebrate the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav with more cheers. The Sandu Princely State had 33 villages at the time of Independence and the province became a part of Indian Union after Independence. In the revenue land settlement drive taken up between 1964 and 1969 after the reorganisation of States, 19 villages had got settlement of their land records. Netaji’s daughter says his remains should be brought back to India

August 15, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's daughter Anita Bose Pfaff has said the time has come to bring back his remains to India and suggested that DNA testing can provide answers to those still having doubts about his death on August 18, 1945. The Austrian-born economist living in Germany said DNA testing offers a chance to obtain scientific proof that the remains kept at Renkoji temple in Tokyo are of Netaji's and the Japanese government has agreed to such a procedure. In a statement, Ms. Pfaff, the only child of Netaji, said since her father did not live to experience the joy of freedom, it is time that at least his remains can return to Indian soil. "Modern technology now offers the means for sophisticated DNA testing, provided DNA can be extracted from the remains. To those who still doubt that Netaji died on August 18, 1945, it offers a chance to obtain scientific proof that the remains kept at Renkoji temple in Tokyo are his," she said. "The priest of Renkoji temple and the Japanese … [Read more...] about Netaji’s daughter says his remains should be brought back to India

The spectrum of law-making in independent India

August 14, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

In India, Parliament is the supreme law-making body. With the exceptions of items reserved unto the people — by the virtue of Fundamental Rights — and items reserved unto the States by the virtue of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution, Parliament can make laws on virtually any subject within India’s territory, and, in exceptional cases, extra-territorially. The Preamble lists the objectives of the Constitution to secure for all citizens justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. Undeterred by India’s deep-seated inequalities and factionalism before and at the time of Independence, the framers of the Constitution undertook a leap of faith and envisioned a liberal, more egalitarian nation-state in the post-colonial world. Building blocks of the Nehruvian years The first government led by Jawaharlal Nehru inherited a copious body of constitutional, substantive, and procedural laws made between the early 1800s to 1947, and a trained bureaucracy to administer them. In his first … [Read more...] about The spectrum of law-making in independent India
