Ron DeSantis Announces Initiative to End Drug Addiction in the Sunshine State

August 3, 2022 by www.breitbart.com

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Wednesday announced an initiative to help end drug addiction in the Sunshine State, detailing what has been described as an “expansion of a new, piloted substance abuse and recovery network to disrupt the opioid epidemic” in President Biden’s open borders America. The network, dubbed Coordinated Opioid Recovery (CORE), is what the governor’s office describes as the “first of its kind in the nation,” coordinated between the Department of Health and Department of Children and Families. “This is an approach that was pioneered in Florida,” DeSantis said during Wednesday’s press conference. “ You will hear from a couple of the speakers about what was done in Palm Beach County.” The governor said officials are taking that model, which has had success in Palm Beach County, and bringing it to 12 additional counties — those that have “demonstrated need for the services, that … have existing programs that can serve as a foundation” and “have … [Read more...] about Ron DeSantis Announces Initiative to End Drug Addiction in the Sunshine State

Ron DeSantis Suspends Woke State Prosecutor Andrew Warren

August 4, 2022 by www.breitbart.com

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is taking action against woke prosecutors who put themselves above the law, announcing the suspension of State Attorney Andrew Warren. DeSantis, speaking from Tampa, detailed the growing emergence of woke prosecutors across the country and the frustration it has caused within the law enforcement community. These prosecutors, he explained, are effectively nullifying laws with selective enforcement, allowing crime to run rampant across the country. The governor asked for an examination of such actions in the Sunshine State and said the results pointed to the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in Hillsborough County with State Attorney Andrew Warren. DeSantis detailed some of the egregious instances of his disregard for the rule of law — from refusing to enforce any prohibitions on sex change operations for minors, regardless of action from the legislature, to asserting that he would not enforce any laws relating to protecting the right to life in the Sunshine … [Read more...] about Ron DeSantis Suspends Woke State Prosecutor Andrew Warren

Ron DeSantis’ “polarizing nature” could mean tight governor race: Pollsters

August 8, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Ron DeSantis may face a sterner test to be re-elected in the midterms than expected, with the Florida governor's "polarizing nature" potentially putting off voters, according to pollsters. A survey conducted by the Progress Florida and Florida Watch groups said that while DeSantis is still e xpected to be voted back into office in November, his lead is not as insurmountable as expected. According to the poll, 48 percent of likely voters say they will support DeSantis in November, only five percentage points ahead of any potential Democratic candidate on 43 percent. The Democratic nomination for Florida governor will be decided in the August 23 primary, with Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried and Rep. Charlie Crist seen as the two main front-runners in the race. The poll did not ask voters who they would back between DeSantis and any named potential Democratic candidate in the gubernatorial election. "Given his financial advantage, DeSantis remains a favorite to win … [Read more...] about Ron DeSantis’ “polarizing nature” could mean tight governor race: Pollsters

Ron DeSantis’ lesson in executive power for the next Republican president | Opinion

August 9, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

With a stroke of his pen last week, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis turned Hillsborough County State Attorney Andrew Warren into a liberal icon on Twitter and MSNBC . Democrats embraced Warren as a hero because he was one of a group of law enforcement officials who pledged not to enforce any laws that restrict abortion, such as Florida's ban on the procedure after 15 weeks' gestational period. Left-wingers defend that pledge as an exercise of prosecutorial discretion, though that concept has never been understood as granting law enforcement authorities the right to annul laws they disagree with. By contrast, liberals are on firmer ground when they argue that the people of greater Tampa voted Warren into office, and that removing him should be left to their discretion at the next election. The governor's critics are not wrong when they say he is sending a message to Republicans across the country as much as he is to Florida's state attorneys. But DeSantis' move isn't solely, or … [Read more...] about Ron DeSantis’ lesson in executive power for the next Republican president | Opinion

August 14, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will headline a rally for candidates endorsed by former president Donald Trump in Arizona on Sunday. DeSantis will speak to rally support for candidates Kari Lake and Blake Masters at the "Unite and Win" rally in downtown Phoenix, Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point Action, announced in a tweet on Monday. Lake, a former news anchor who won the Republican primary for Arizona governor last week and will face off against Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs in the November election. Masters, a venture capitalist, will face off against incumbent Mark Kelly for U.S. Senate . They are among a host of candidates endorsed by Trump who have embraced his baseless claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election. But it's "America's governor," as Kirk put it, who is hitting the campaign trail this month to boost GOP candidates in Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio and Pennsylvania ahead of the November midterms. DeSantis Goes Scorched Earth on Florida Prosecutor for Defying Abortion Ban

August 4, 2022 by www.thedailybeast.com

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday announced he’s taken the extraordinary step of suspending Hillsborough County State Attorney Andrew Warren for refusing to enforce some of the state’s laws—including the recent 15-week abortion ban. In a news conference in front of Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the Republican governor said Warren has “put himself publicly above the law” by stating he will not enforce some of Florida’s most controversial laws. “State Attorneys have a duty to prosecute crimes as defined in Florida law, not to pick and choose which laws to enforce based on his personal agenda,” DeSantis said on Thursday. “It is my duty to hold Florida's elected officials to the highest standards for the people of Florida. I have the utmost trust that Judge Susan Lopez will lead the office through this transition and faithfully uphold the rule of law.” In the executive order on Warren’s suspension , DeSantis claimed the chief prosecutor for the 13th Judicial … [Read more...] about DeSantis Goes Scorched Earth on Florida Prosecutor for Defying Abortion Ban

DeSantis ousts state attorney over abortion, gender-affirming care stance

August 4, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has removed a local prosecutor over his public statements refusing to enforce laws restricting abortion or gender-affirming surgeries for children, while taking a lax approach to crime. DeSantis announced on Thursday the extraordinary action against Andrew Warren, state attorney for Hillsborough County, for seeking "veto power over what the entire state decides on these important issues." Warren responded by calling it a dangerous and "illegal overreach" to further the political ambitions of the governor, who is considered a potential 2024 Republican presidential candidate. The move by DeSantis is one of the most aggressive taken by Republicans and other who have called for the removal of progressive prosecutors accused of selectively enforcing the law for political purposes. Speaking at a press conference in Tampa, DeSantis was joined by local law enforcement officials who aired their frustrations with Warren, who was first elected to the … [Read more...] about DeSantis ousts state attorney over abortion, gender-affirming care stance

DeSantis entering realm of “Orwellian thought police”: Suspended prosecutor

August 7, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Andrew Warren, former state attorney for Hillsborough County in Florida, criticized Governor Ron DeSantis on Sunday for suspending him over claims that he is not upholding the rule of law while working as a local prosecutor. The governor announced Warren's suspension on Thursday during a press conference, and said that Warren "has put himself publicly above the law," adding that Warren signed letters stating that he refuses to enforce "any prohibition on sex-change operations for minors" or laws related to abortion. Some law enforcement members at the conference also accused him of not being strict enough in prosecuting criminals. While appearing on MSNBC 's The Katie Phang Show, Warren talked about DeSantis' decision to suspend him from his job. "Let's be clear, this isn't about anything that I've done. This is about what I said," he said, and added that he is being targeted for expressing his stance on legislation related to abortion and gender-affirming health care. … [Read more...] about DeSantis entering realm of “Orwellian thought police”: Suspended prosecutor
