Trump being “driven nuts” not knowing who mole is: Ex-federal prosecutor

August 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Donald Trump not being able to identify a possible informer within his organization is driving the former president "nuts," according to a former federal prosecutor. Trump's Florida home, Mar-a-Lago, was raided by the FBI on August 8 investigating a potential breach of the Espionage Act and other alleged crimes. Agents seized 11 sets of classified documents from the property and removed 20 boxes of material. Two senior government officials told Newsweek that intelligence for the raid was provided by a confidential human source , or informant, based within Trump's team. On his Truth Social website, Trump demanded the release of the "completely unredacted" affidavit that was used to justify the Mar-a-Lago raid. He wrote: "In the interests of TRANSPARENCY, I call for the immediate release of the completely Unredacted Affidavit pertaining to this horrible and shocking BREAK-IN." This was rejected by the Department of Justice (DOJ), which said publishing the document would … [Read more...] about Trump being “driven nuts” not knowing who mole is: Ex-federal prosecutor

A Texas border city mayor pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges for using his position as a local school administrator to rig a contract for his benefit. Late last week, 38-year-old Rodrigo “Rigo” Lopez, the mayor of Penitas, Texas, went before U.S. District Judge Micaela Alvarez and pleaded guilty to a federal fraud charge. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Lopez worked with the La Joya ISD athletic director to carry out purchasing frauds in 2018. Until recently, Lopez had been an administrator at La Joya ISD. August 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

An economist known for his bearish tendencies is warning Americans that a recession will be "long" and "severe". Nouriel Roubini, also referred to as "Dr. Doom," said Monday that a recession could bring financial distress "across the board." Despite a strong jobs report, the U.S. economy has left many Americans seeing higher grocery bills despite a dip in July in overall inflation . The Federal Reserve has attempted to curb inflation by raising interest rates, but some experts say the country is heading for, or may already be in , a recession. "We are in a sharp slowdown, we've had two negative quarters of growth in the first half [of 2022]," Roubini, an Iranian American economist who accurately predicted the housing bubble burst in 2008, told Bloomberg on Monday. "The recession is going to be long, protracted, severe, and associated with financial distress across the board." The Federal Reserve most recently hiked interest rates another 75 basis points in late July to … [Read more...] about U.S. recession is going to be “long” and “severe”: Economist

Viral witness slams Amber Heard for using TMZ lawyers

August 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Morgan Tremaine has put Amber Heard on blast for using the same law firm who tried to prevent his testimony during the Johnny Depp defamation trial. Former TMZ employee Tremaine also called out the outgoing Elaine Bredehoft, with whom he had a tense exchange during the first trial in Fairfax County, Virginia earlier this year. After Heard lost that defamation suit, she announced on Monday that she's replacing her team for the upcoming appeal against the original decision. Twitch streamer Tremaine mocked the change on Twitter , claiming that Heard is replacing Bredehoft with the firm that "failed" to stop him from testifying. He is referencing Ballard Spahr, the law firm who aided his former employers TMZ in citing "journalist's privilege" to try to prevent him from taking the stand. "So bestie," Tremaine wrote on Twitter on Monday, "got fired and replaced with lawyers from the same firm that failed to stop me from testifying." His "bestie" in this context appears … [Read more...] about Viral witness slams Amber Heard for using TMZ lawyers

Trump and allies inciting base against FBI, Kinzinger warns

August 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

U.S. Representative Adam Kinzinger has blamed Donald Trump supporters for a sharp rise in violent threats against the FBI since its agents' search of the former president's Mar-a-Lago residence last week. "This is ridiculous," the Illinois Republican said on CNN , talking about the threats against FBI agents and law enforcement personnel posted on social media by Trump supporters. "It's ridiculous obviously for what the former president has done, in terms of saying 'This is an attack on my home, I did nothing wrong,' and of course, from the little bit we know, it seems like there's certainly good reasons for the FBI to have done what they did," the U.S. representative said. Asked by host Wolf Blitzer if he held Trump responsible for inciting his supporters, Kinzinger said: "Yes, absolutely, 100 percent." He added: "Members of Congress , Senators, any Republican elected official out there that rushes to be the first on television or the first to Twitter to … [Read more...] about Trump and allies inciting base against FBI, Kinzinger warns

Eric Trump says he will reveal FBI raid surveillance tape

August 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Eric Trump, the second son of the former president, said his family is in possession of surveillance tapes of the FBI raid at Donald Trump 's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, and this footage will "absolutely" be released "at the right time." "Will you—you still have the surveillance tape, is that correct? Will you—are you allowed to share that with the country?" Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Eric Trump on Monday. "Absolutely, Sean. At the right time," Eric Trump replied, adding that all law enforcement officers, including FBI agents, should wear body cameras for transparency reasons. Eric Trump's claim confirms what Christina Bobb—one of the former president's lawyers—already said last week about security cameras being on at the Florida home during most of the FBI search on Monday, August 8. According to what Bobb told the right-wing media network Real America's Voice last week, surveillance cameras were off for a short time while the FBI agents talked to Donald … [Read more...] about Eric Trump says he will reveal FBI raid surveillance tape
