A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud said “We are of the view that it is not the stage to interfere (with the appointment).” The petition against Justice Gogoi’s appointment as the next CJI was filed by two lawyers. In their plea, advocates R P Luthra and Satyaveer Sharma had said they were seeking adjudication of the question of law relying on the contents of the press conference of January 12, called by four senior judges (Justices Chelameswar (since retd), Ranjan Gogoi, Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph) of the apex court. Khanwilkar on Wednesday dismissed the writ petition of Quo Warranto filed by Advocate R. P. Luthra, challenging Justice Ranjan Gogoi’s elevation as the next CJI. “The basis of filing of the petition is the unprecedented press conference (held by Justice J. Malaysia Gets Its First Woman Chief Justice- Tengku Maimun

She is the first woman to become the Chief Justice of Malaysia. The Federal Court of Malaysia is the highest court and the final appellate court in Malaysia. The Chief Justice of the Federal Court, is the office and title of the head of the Malaysian judiciary system. Tengku Maimun succeeds Richard Malanjum, whose tenure as the Chief Justice ended on April 12. She started her judicial career as a Judicial Commissioner at the Kuala Lumpur High Court. She was later appointed as High Court Judge, Kuala Lumpur. She served as Court of Appeal Judge from 8th January 2013 until 25th November 2018. She has been serving as Federal Court Judge since 26th November 2018. Senate Casts Historic Vote, Approves Richard Robinson As First African-American Chief Justice
In a historic move, the state Senate voted unanimously Thursday to approve Richard A. Robinson as the first African-American chief justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court.Robinson’s approval was a relatively quick and smooth process that followed a tumultuous, bitter, elongated battle that ended with the defeat of Justice Andrew McDonald, a longtime Democratic political ally of Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.By contrast, Robinson’s nomination had been suggested and embraced by Senate Republican leader Len Fasano, who led the fight against McDonald. Earlier this week, the state House of Representatives voted 146 — 0 for Robinson after a brief debate. Being the head of judicial family of the country, a series of challenges await the new Chief Justice. The approach that will be adopted by Justice Gogoi in addressing these major challenges will be keenly observed. The first challenge certainly will be the issue of “Master of the Roster”. While all the judges of the Supreme Court are considered equal, the Chief Justice is the ‘Master of the Roster’ as has been indicated by successive judgments, some of late passed by Justice Dipak Misra himself. It will be a challenge for the new Chief as to how he conducts himself in terms of his new role as ‘Master of the Roster’.
