A 10.4-inch tablet that's guaranteed to get two years of system updates isn't exactly offering the moon, but for a retail price of just under $250, it's a solid value. The Nokia T20 Android tablet has its annoyances, but its 2K resolution screen, expandable storage, front and rear cameras, and decent battery life all add up to an experience that's good enough to be intriguing. This is a tablet that can handle all kinds of media consumption if that's what you want. Watching shows and reading on it are perfectly acceptable. It's also a fine general-purpose device for browsing the web. Plus, half of T20's annoyances aren't even Nokia's fault—it's how Android and its apps stretch out for larger screens that's annoying. This tablet isn't a direct replacement for an iPad because it lacks the app ecosystem and certain accessory support, but it is a cheaper way to get content on a large screen. It might also be a suitable tablet for a kid because Google Kids Space comes ready to go, out … [Read more...] about Review: Budget Android Tablet Nokia T20 is good enough

Book review: “Paul Newman: Blue-Eyed Cool,” a Hollywood legend in photos
Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Road to Perdition, The Hustler, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and so many other films became the legacy of one of America's most beloved actors. In each film, acting legend Paul Newman brought poise, class, style, humor and a touch of rebelliousness to the screen, delighting his fans since his early days on live television, Broadway and his first film in 1954. But perhaps even more memorable than his legendary career, Newman had a feature that set him apart from the rest and captured the hearts of America: his striking (albeit color-blind) baby-blue eyes. Throughout his extensive career, Newman was photographed a great deal, and James Clarke's newest book, Paul Newman: Blue-Eyed Cool, features the photograph collections of six top celebrity photographers who each captured the essence of Newman's charm and charisma, both on- and off-screen, over time. "You know, I've loved movies and reading about movies since I was kid and so any … [Read more...] about Book review: “Paul Newman: Blue-Eyed Cool,” a Hollywood legend in photos
Hisense 26.6 Cubic Foot French Door Refrigerator review
The Hisense 26.6 Cubic Foot French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker is a beautiful refrigerator that looks more expensive than it is, includes excellent features and is a great way to bring more organization into your kitchen. Over the last several months, I tested the Hisense HRF266N6CSE refrigerator, which retailed for $1,599. I put this through the paces at home with two teens and a busy kitchen and fell in love with its interior water dispenser, innovative storage and modern style. Since that time, this model number was recalled due to loosening door hinges. The issue has been remedied, and the model name updated to HRF266N6CSE1 (also $1,599). Otherwise these refrigerators are identical. The Hisense offers a lot of storage inside. Yet it doesn't take up as much space as our previous refrigerator, thanks to its integrated door handles. TL;DR Pros : Modern, smart design Savvy use of interior space and organization Water and ice without an exterior … [Read more...] about Hisense 26.6 Cubic Foot French Door Refrigerator review

‘Spider-Man Remastered’ review: One of the most enjoyable superhero games out there finally comes to PC
Spider-Man Remastered Developer and Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment Price: ₹2,999 on PC Until the first Spider-Man hit the PlayStation in 2018, most superhero games, with the exception of the Batman Arkham series, were lukewarm cash grabs or lackluster movie tie-ins. Spider-Man did an incredible job of capturing the sheer velocity of being the web-slinging hero. It brought together the Sinister Six for a memorable encounter. With Sony betting big on the PC gaming crowd and the success of ports such as Death Stranding and God of War, Spider-Man’s foray into PC was inevitable. Spider-Man skips the origin story that has been told and re-told over the years. Instead, this story starts with an established hero saving a city while trying to balance his personal life, working as an apprentice to Otto Octavius. An explosive tutorial has you take down Wilson Fisk a.k.a the Kingpin. The void left in the crime world is quickly taken over by The Demons, a shadowy group … [Read more...] about ‘Spider-Man Remastered’ review: One of the most enjoyable superhero games out there finally comes to PC
Nolte: Woke ‘They/Them’ So Awful Even Left-wing Reviewers Hate It
They/Them, a gay empowerment/anti-conversion therapy horror film, was supposed to help put the Peacock streaming network on the map. Well, it has, just not in the way it had hoped. Over at Rotten Tomatoes , with 48 reviews logged in, They/Them has earned a terrible 29 percent rotten score from critics. The audience score is even lower — 15 percent. Rotten Tomatoes Although the cast is all gay, lesbian, transsexual, and whatever else is out there now… Although the writer, director is gay… Here’s a taste of the results… IndieWire : Kevin Bacon runs a gay conversion therapy camp in this queer thriller that’s light on scares and long on self-loathing. … Studios began to shove political commentary into every horror movie, whether it was “The Forever Purge” pitting Mexican immigrants against gun-toting MAGA gangs, or the latest “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” turning Leatherface into a displaced victim of tech gentrification. Horror fans can sense when … [Read more...] about Nolte: Woke ‘They/Them’ So Awful Even Left-wing Reviewers Hate It
‘Aavasavyuham’ movie review: Fantasy and realism find a perfect balance in this surreal mockumentary
What’s not to like about Aavasavyuham ( The Arbit Documentation Of An Amphibian Hunt )? Krishand RK’s second film, a mockumentary, is a deeply-sensitive story about the ecology, society and man’s interactions with nature. And yet, it does not fail to entertain with some superb acting, dialogues and scenes, some even based on real-life events. The humour is subtle and nuanced. Surrealistic and satirical at the same time, the film artfully combines mainstream ingredients with concerns about the environment in general, and, specifically, about the ecologically fragile mangroves in Kerala. The film is set in Munnar, Azhikode and Puthuvype, places which have sizable mangrove forests. Notably, Puthuvype was in the news as a result of protests by residents and greens against the establishment of a LNG terminal there. The film revolves around an enigmatic man, essayed by Rahul Rajagopal, who has a mystifying relationship with all creatures and nature. On a nature trail in 2015, elusive … [Read more...] about ‘Aavasavyuham’ movie review: Fantasy and realism find a perfect balance in this surreal mockumentary
‘Viruman’ movie review: Karthi and Prakash Raj are endearing in this blaring rural drama that firmly sticks to its traditions
The ghost of Thevar Magan and Virumaandi , arguably two of the greatest films in Tamil cinema, continues to haunt even after decades. And to a large extent, these two films — written by Kamal Haasan — seem to provide the basic framework for these rural dramas that are set in and around the Madurai belt. It is not exactly surprising that Viruman too has these shades. It is, in a way, a spin on Thevar Magan that had a patriarch in Sivaji’s Periya Thevar and the dutiful son in Kamal Haasan’s Sakthivelu. Now what if these two characters were in head-on collision? That is not the only similarity; the way Karthi gets introduced does remind you of Virumaandi , if you wish to jog your memory a bit. In fact, right after Karthi’s introduction, Prakash Raj’s Muniyandi is walking home along with a group of his associates. Out of frustration, he stops midway and yells at them for being mere bystanders. Something about this tiny bit of performance from Raj reminds you of Sivaji Ganesan … [Read more...] about ‘Viruman’ movie review: Karthi and Prakash Raj are endearing in this blaring rural drama that firmly sticks to its traditions
