Nota Cast: Vijay Devarakonda, Sathyaraj, Nassar Director: Anand Shankar We have seen stars play the reluctant politician before. Ranbir Kapoor in Prakash Jha's Raajneeti and Mahesh Babu in Bharat Ane Nenu were forced to take charge of their father's political empire when a crisis beckoned them from their luxurious life abroad. Vijay Deverekonda, easily the most promising actor to emerge from Telugu cinema since Mahesh Babu, plays the scion of a political family who finds himself sucked into the murky politics of present-day India where horse-trading and money laundering is a way of life. We get big doses of both in this headline-hefty political parable. Devarakonda fits into the role of the questioning chief minister with a hand-in-glove familiarity. He challenges the status quo without assuming messianic ambitions. He is at once the dynastic insider in Indian politics by birth and the cynical outsider by nature. Watch how Devarakonda's Varun combats the lazy indifferent … [Read more...] about Nota Movie Review: Vijay Devarakonda Shines in Engaging Political Thriller

US Open provides much-needed break from trials and tribulations of LIV Golf civil war
In a period like no other, the world of golf finds itself in a battling civil war following the controversial introduction of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series last week. The newly born circuit has seemingly trampled on the soul of the sport, leaving the iconic traditions and integrity in its wake. The mega money on offer has lured away some of the golf’s biggest names - with the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Ian Poulter all pledging their allegiances to Greg Norman’s new Saudi-backed golfing empire. Despite pocketing millions, the breakaway rebels could well have surrendered their biggest asset of all in PGA Tour membership. LIV Golf’s founding playing members have all been issued suspensions from the PGA Tour’s chief Jay Monahan, with further sanctions from the likes of the Masters and Ryder Cup expected. As well as the sport’s leading circuit turning its back on the LIV rebels, a number of fellow stars - and friends - have … [Read more...] about US Open provides much-needed break from trials and tribulations of LIV Golf civil war
Ian Poulter to appeal PGA Tour ban of LIV Golf players as civil war continues to erupt
Ian Poulter is set to appeal his suspension from the PGA Tour after competing in this week’s LIV Golf Invitational Series event in St Albans. Poulter is one of many stars who has joined the controversial circuit, and is playing at Centurion Club this week. Within minutes of the inaugural event kicking off on Thursday, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan revealed that all those competing on the rebel circuit were in fact suspended. In a statement the Tour boss said: “Their participation in the Saudi Golf League/LIV Golf event is in violation of our Tournament Regulations. "The same fate [suspension] holds true for any other players who participate in future Saudi Golf League events in violation of our Regulations.” Following the sanction, Poulter revealed he would be appealing the decision, describing the ban as making ‘no sense’. While competing in Hertfordshire, he said: “I will appeal for sure. It makes no sense. “Having two Tour cards and the ability to play golf all … [Read more...] about Ian Poulter to appeal PGA Tour ban of LIV Golf players as civil war continues to erupt

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 8 ELMAU, Germany (AP) — In 1975, leaders of the world’s wealthy democracies gathered to deal with an energy crisis sparked by a war and rampant inflation. Those same sore points are bedeviling their successors representing 46% of the global economy at this week's Group of Seven summit, with high consumer and energy prices threatening to trigger recessions in the U.S. and Europe. Here are key facts about the Group of Seven: WHAT IS THE GROUP OF SEVEN? It's a group of wealthy democracies with large, advanced economies and high standards of living. Economic policy still tends to be front and … [Read more...] about EXPLAINER: G7 provides forum for like-minded democracies
Spain Turns to Africa, Lobbies NATO, Allies Over Ukraine-driven Migration
Spain is shifting its foreign policy towards Africa while lobbying the EU and NATO for support to address migration from the continent, aggravated by the Ukraine invasion, two senior government officials and two diplomatic sources told Reuters. Spain will use a NATO summit in Madrid this week to press its case, and is likely to ask for increased intelligence sharing by the alliance including on issues related to migration, the diplomats said. Even before Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine, Socialist prime minister Pedro Sanchez had revived a strategy mothballed by previous governments of working with African partners to contain migration and to tackle root causes such as instability and climate change, two officials close to him said. That drive has now taken on more urgency, they added. “We are looking for good relations with all the neighbours around us and jointly managing phenomena that no one, not even the most powerful state on the planet, can deal with on its own,” … [Read more...] about Spain Turns to Africa, Lobbies NATO, Allies Over Ukraine-driven Migration

Defending champion Lightning’s bid for 3-peat falls short
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 23 TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Lightning didn’t relinquish their grip on the Stanley Cup without a fight. Andrei Vasilevskiy rejected shot after shot, keeping the two-time defending champions’ quest for a threepeat alive. In the end, another superb performance by the star goaltender wasn’t enough to keep the Colorado Avalanche from wresting the title away. “It definitely stings," defenseman Ryan MacDonagh said. The Lightning were 3-0 when facing possible elimination before Sunday night’s 2-1 loss in Game 6 stopped their bid to become the first team to win three consecutive Stanley Cup championships since the New York Islanders captured four in a row from 1980-83. Steven Stamkos got them off to a fast start, scoring from in front of Darcy Kuemper less than … [Read more...] about Defending champion Lightning’s bid for 3-peat falls short

Saudi golf defectors sanctioned by DP World Tour as they follow PGA in stamping down
The DP World Tour have today announced punishments for the Saudi golf defectors with the sport's civil war escalating. A number of the Tour's biggest names - including Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter - made the controversial LIV Golf switch ahead of the inaugural event earlier this month. In response to those who chose to sign on the dotted line with Greg Norman's new golfing empire, the PGA Tour issued suspensions to the rebels , with US stars such as Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau all being handed the punishment. Two weeks on, their European allies at the DP World Tour have now followed suit with sanctions of their own, issuing all those competing on the breakaway circuit £100,000 fines for competing without permission from the Wentworth-based tour. As well as this, the Saudi golf rebels will also be banned from competing in the Genesis Scottish Open, the Barbasol Championship (July 7-10) and the Barracuda Championship … [Read more...] about Saudi golf defectors sanctioned by DP World Tour as they follow PGA in stamping down
