Paris: Faces, bodies, status and humour are all important in Internet dating, but the biggest success factor of all could be your name. So say scientists who found that people whose online name began with a letter in the top half of the alphabet - A to M - get the most "looks" from others. "Several factors make a difference when looking for love in a digital setting," said Khalid Khan, a professor at Queen Mary University of London. "Starting with a screen name with a letter in the top half of the alphabet is surprisingly important - because several measures of success, such as educational attainment and income, are linked to names higher up the alphabet. "Add to this the fact that search engines sort names alphabetically." Khan and Sameer Chaudhry at Barts and the London School of Medicine sought objective data on how people conveyed their attractiveness on dating sites, and whether others responded to it. They trawled through 3,938 studies into online dating, published … [Read more...] about Dos and don’ts: 8 tips that can help you find a date online

GST Plan for Online Gaming Concerns Industry Experts About Future Growth
The government’s proposal to tax online gaming at the highest rate under the goods and services tax (GST) has the sector concerned about its prospects for future expansion. It was reported that a proposal from the group of state finance ministers to collect a 28% GST on casinos, and horse racing, along with online gaming, is expected to be reviewed by the GST Council at its upcoming meeting on June 28. Online gaming should be taxed at the entire value of the consideration, including the contest entry fee paid by the player upon participation in the game, according to a recommendation made by the Group of Ministers led by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma. However, executives and online gaming industry experts have expressed concerns. According to them, it could slow down the expansion of online gaming companies and force fantasy sports companies to provide smaller prize pools, which could cause their loyal customers to quit the platforms in pursuit of greater games. … [Read more...] about GST Plan for Online Gaming Concerns Industry Experts About Future Growth

Ethnic media was devastated by Covid. Now publishers are struggling to self-fund.
Soon after the coronavirus pandemic hit New York City, Bijay Poudel had to make one of the hardest decisions in his professional life: to stop the print publication of Vishwa Sandesh , a local Nepalese newspaper. During the shutdown, advertisement revenue dried up, and the shops where the paper was normally distributed were now closed. While the pandemic has dealt a blow to the entire journalism industry — more than 100 local newsrooms have closed since — it’s been especially tough on small, ethnic news outlets that may not have the resources to stay afloat. Of the four Nepalese newspapers in New York City — Vishwa Sandesh; Everest Times , a biweekly; Khasokhas , a weekly; and Nepalaya , a biweekly — all have been forced to close their print editions and turn entirely digital. “Seeing only the digital version of the newspaper was painful to me,” Poudel, 48, publisher and editor-in-chief of the weekly paper, told NBC Asian America. “I can’t describe the feeling one … [Read more...] about Ethnic media was devastated by Covid. Republicans Condemn Verizon, ‘Big Telecom’ for Entertaining Democrat Censorship Demands
Big Tech is increasingly making it impossible for Republican politicians to communicate with their constituents. In addition to social media censorship, leftists are trying to censor at the level of emails, text messages, and telecommunications infrastructure. The Republican party is getting quicker at responding to political bias from tech companies. After studies showing that 70 percent of GOP text messages go straight to spam folders compared to just eight percent of Democratic messages, Republicans have introduced the Political BIAS Emails Act . There are also a number of Republican bills targeting social media censorship, at both the federal and state level. But leftists are already moving on to a new target: telecommunications infrastructure. Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg (MANDEL NGAN/AFP/Getty Images) Telecom companies have already had an impact on national politics, with Verizon and AT&T briefly shutting down Trump’s campaign texts during the 2020 … [Read more...] about Republicans Condemn Verizon, ‘Big Telecom’ for Entertaining Democrat Censorship Demands

KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor (pic) has once again filed an application to challenge the appointment of Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram as senior deputy public prosecutor in her RM1.25bil solar hybrid project corruption trial and to nullify the entire trial proceedings since 2018. Since her teenage years, Boudicca Langer-Hann knew her body was different from those of her friends. Her breasts were much larger than others and she never quite felt right in her own skin because of it. The now 40-year-old events manager from Dorset has shared how she grew to have size 34G boobs and felt "trapped" in her body, as they prevented her living out her dreams of being a gymnast or a dancer. The mum-of-two also says they also caused her to receive a lot of unwanted attention as big boobs are deemed "sexy". But everything has turned around for Boudicca, after undergoing a "life-changing" reduction surgery to remove 850g of excess weight from her breasts. Why we’re lining up for “Top Gun: Maverick” this summer
I was in no rush to see the sequel to a 36-year-old movie that was an old favorite of mine. And in no rush for the same reasons I didn't look forward to seeing other sequels of American pop cinema classics: Think Jaws: The Revenge , Little Fockers or Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps . Because movie sequels are generally uninspired commercial enterprises and generally come out poorly, for both the studios and the fans. I figured I'd wait for Top Gun: Maverick to make its way to the streaming world and watch it in the comfort of my home. But soon the reviews started streaming in from friends. Again and again, they told me the movie wasn't just good but very good. That it was packed with real emotion and excitement. That it was an old-fashioned, crowd-pleasing blockbuster. Some friends told me it was better than the original, something I hadn't heard about a sequel since Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather Part II . That's why we lined up—and are still lining up—to see … [Read more...] about Why we’re lining up for “Top Gun: Maverick” this summer
