Patrons willing to put their phones in cage get discount at this restaurant

April 25, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Restaurateur Rajeev Gupte has always been involved in his community, but he's taken social experimentation to a new level. Gupte, the owner and general manager of Spice Fusion in Kent, England, initiated a special offer to patrons that started on March 7 and is continuing every Monday: Groups of four or more dine-in individuals would receive a 20 percent discount on their bills. However, there is a catch. All patrons must lock their smartphones in a padlocked "jail" resting on the table for the duration of their meal. The deal has been advertised on the restaurant's social media channels. Coined with the tagline "Dinner is Better When We Eat Together," Gupte said the initiative was aimed to give people a better opportunity to enjoy each other's company, "so everyone can concentrate on the important things." "The idea itself came from my chef (Abul Hussain)," Gupte told Newsweek . "He had been to London with his family and they had a meal somewhere. The idea was that if you … [Read more...] about Patrons willing to put their phones in cage get discount at this restaurant

Gordon Ramsay’s Bottomless Pizza Restaurant Raided by Students Who Stole Slices in Bags

June 24, 2022 by www.news18.com

A group of students have been banned from Gordon Ramsay’s pizza restaurant after they tried to sneakily pack numerous slices into their bags. 18-years-old Matt Waters visited the restaurant in Camden with his friends. They aimed to take advantage of the bottomless pizza scheme, which costs £16 per person. It includes slices of Margherita, pepperoni, charred aubergine, corn and chorizo. The students attempted to sneakily put the slices into Tupperware boxes, which were hidden inside handbags and tote bags. They captured all of it and uploaded a video on TikTok, reports Ladbible. Somehow, the students managed to hide over 25 slices of pizza in their bags. Even though the group managed to escape, the staff got to know about the entire plot after the news was shared online. The restaurant managed to track down the group and used Instagram to announce that they have been banned from all the Gordon Ramsay restaurants. While speaking to Ladbible, Matt explained, “We were using Tupperware … [Read more...] about Gordon Ramsay’s Bottomless Pizza Restaurant Raided by Students Who Stole Slices in Bags

Restaurant owner says complaining customers are ‘chavs who don’t want to pay’

June 28, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk

A restaurant manager has lashed out at complaining customers - describing them as "chavs who don't want to pay." Seaway fish and chip shop has been hit with a string of bad reviews but staff insist "it's a load of old cobbler" as their food is fresh. Diners have described their experience at the popular chippy in Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, as "utterly disgraceful" with poor service and food served cold. But manager Mr Hussain defended the restaurant and said customers are happy to polish off their meals before launching a complaint. He told Grimsby Live : "It's just chavvy people that come in here and they don't want to pay for their food. "They've eaten it all and then they say, 'oh it was cold, it was this, it was that' yet they've finished all their food." One diner, who did not wish to be named, visited Seaway with his wife and two of his children and described the experience as bad from start to finish. Some customers allegedly complained that their … [Read more...] about Restaurant owner says complaining customers are ‘chavs who don’t want to pay’

64-year-old Chinese restaurant, along with whole Bay Area block, approved for demolition

June 28, 2022 by www.sfgate.com

A 64-year-old San Mateo Chinese restaurant 's days appear to be numbered. This week, the San Mateo City Council approved a new six-story mixed-use residential building that will require a whole San Mateo city block to be demolished, including Wing Fat Chinese Restaurant, reported the San Mateo Daily Journal . The project, called Block 21, proposes 180,000 square feet of offices and 111 housing units on 500 East 3rd Ave. (with 12 of those units being in the very-low-income category). The City Council unanimously approved the project at its recent meeting — an approval the project needed because it exceeds height restrictions. The building will feature a “contemporary” architecture style, 402 parking spaces and 151 bike spaces. “Once this is done, San Mateo is going to be a better place, and I’m not talking about tax revenue or homes. I’m talking about utilizing this property,” Councilmember Eric Rodriguez told the San Mateo Daily Journal. All 40 property owners … [Read more...] about 64-year-old Chinese restaurant, along with whole Bay Area block, approved for demolition

Wine Country lost this Michelin-starred restaurant a decade ago. It’s finally reopening this summer

June 24, 2022 by www.sfchronicle.com

For chef Douglas Keane, the road here has been not merely long and winding. It has been brutal. When his acclaimed Cyrus in downtown Healdsburg closed in 2012 following a landlord dispute, he vowed to reopen the two- Michelin-starred restaurant elsewhere in the Alexander Valley. Little did he know it would take 10 years of stops and starts , plus lengthy deliberations over five different properties — four of which would prove too problematic — to make it happen. On Sept. 9, Cyrus will finally be reborn, in a bucolic setting in Geyserville, a 10-minute drive from its original location. Keane will again be serving up his style of assertively flavored, seasonal California fare with Japanese and other global influences, this time with an added Willy Wonka-like surprise. Exclusive reservations for the first three dinners, Sept. 9-11, will go on sale online at noon on Sunday, June 26, by San Francisco’s Meals on Wheels . Just 12 seats will be available each of those evenings, … [Read more...] about Wine Country lost this Michelin-starred restaurant a decade ago. It’s finally reopening this summer

April 5, 2022 by www.independent.co.uk

A woman has revealed her surprise after she received a menu at a restaurant without the prices listed, while her boyfriend received one with the prices on it. In a recent video shared to TikTok, Abbie Chatfield explained how she went to a “boujee” restaurant with her boyfriend. When they sat down at the table, she was given a menu that didn’t include prices for any of the menu items. “So we’re at the boujee restaurant and my menu didn’t have prices on them,” she explained. “And he was like: ‘Yeah it’s expensive.’ And I was like: ‘How do you know that?’” Chatfield, who was a contestant on season seven of the Australian series The Bachelor , based on the US show of the same name, documented different parts of the restaurant to show that she expected it to be a pricey place. However, she was still curious about how her boyfriend knew it was expensive, which is when she realised that his menu had “prices on it.” Recommended Restaurant server … [Read more...] about Woman reveals her boyfriend received restaurant menu with prices while she didn’t: ‘Patriarchy strikes again’
