INSTAGRAM will ban users from posting graphic self-harm images online, the firm announced today. The company is finally cracking down on damaging posts in the wake of the tragic suicide of teen Molly Russell - but couldn't say when the ban will come into effect. It is also fixing its algorithms so less graphic pictures about self-harm are less easy for vulnerable users to find. Instagram and other social networks have been heavily criticised for endangering kids by giving them access to damaging imagery. The family of 14-year-old Molly suggested her suicide was partly linked to viewing online material promoting self-harm. Boss Adam Mosseri was today hauled in for crisis meetings with Cabinet ministers Matt Hancock and Jeremy Wright. The photo-sharing app has rolled out an update to add what it calls Focus to the in-app camera, which will keep subjects and faces in focus while softly blurring the background to make the subject stand out. In photography, the effect is known as bokeh. World Canadian Cocaine Drug Smuggling Instagram A Canadian woman, who has been dubbed “cocaine babe” by the media, has been sentenced to a maximum of eight years in prison for smuggling suitcases of drugs into Australia. Melina Roberge, 24, was arrested in 2016 after Australian Border Force authorities raided Sea Princess, a luxury cruise ship, while it was docked in Sydney, and discovered suitcases filled with cocaine in her possession, Austrlian media reported. On Wednesday, Roberge cried as NSW District Court Judge Kate Traill sentenced her to eight years in jail for drug trafficking. Roberge will be eligible for parole in May 2021, after taking into account the time she has already served.
