· March 6, 2018 ·

A Division Bench of the Madras High Court has referred to a larger bench the question whether Tamil can be made a compulsory subject in Board Examination. The Bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdul Quddhose noted, “Under the Tamil Nadu Tamil Learning Act, 2006 and/or Rules and/or Regulations framed and/or orders issued thereunder, exemption from appearance at the Tamil compulsory paper in the Board examination is permitted in certain contingencies. It is the morning after a historic vote that saw Wilson elected as the first African-American to serve on the Clayton School Board. “This victory is huge,” he says. We're sipping coffee in the shop he owns — Northwest Coffee Roasting Co. — in the heart of the St. Louis County seat. Calls of congratulations are pouring in. Customers offer a thumbs up for his win.“You don't know what's going to happen when you're a candidate,” Wilson says, “how the voters are going to receive you. I felt like I was getting a lot of yesses as I knocked on doors, but I wasn't 100 percent sure.”Wilson knocked on a lot of doors, hundreds of them, enough to easily defeat one of the two incumbents running for re-election. But about that canvassing:Not once, but twice, Wilson was stopped by police officers in Clayton neighborhoods allegedly answering complaints of a black man going door-to-door selling things.“Free at last, free at last,” … [Read more...] about Messenger: Stopped for Canvassing While Black, school board candidate in Clayton gets last laugh
