Welcome back to the Boston.com sports mailbag. Every week we’ll respond to your questions about the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and anything else tangentially related to Boston sports. Send them into [email protected] Perhaps you’ve been distracted by the Red Sox’ hot start or the Celtics and Bruins’ playoff runs, but the NFL draft is right around the corner. And the Patriots have everyone guessing. @Raudy06: Given the picks the Patriots have in the first and second round, Brady’s eventual retirement, as well as having no backup, is it safe to assume the Pats can gamble for a QB? Nik: I wouldn’t ever pretend to know Bill Belichick’s next move. It’d probably benefit us all to stop trying to guess it. But yeah, that certainly seems like the logical move. Just ask Robert Kraft. “Obviously at some point we have to,” Kraft told ESPN last month. The bigger question … [Read more...] about Mailbag: A look at the Patriots’ draft day plans, Tom Brady’s successor, and Celtics playoff predictions

The square-jawed, clean-livin' pretty-boy leader of The Evil Empire evidently might ride off into the sunset once and for all. Unless, of course, he doesn't. Color me skeptical when ESPN reported Wednesday morning that Tom Brady has not committed to returning to the Patriots in 2018, two months after he threw for a Super Bowl-record 505 yards in a thrilling loss on the biggest stage. The self-proclaimed “F--kin' Machine,” who is more pliable than Plastic Man, more disciplined than a Buddhist monk and more driven than the Oracle of Omaha is suddenly going to retire at the height of his seemingly interminable super powers? The dude is the reigning NFL MVP, for Pete's sake. I don't buy it for one freakin' second. ESPN's report also cited people who know the quarterback predicting that he would indeed return for a 19th season, prompting queries about what exactly was newsworthy about the information at all. It's no secret that Brady's supermodel wife, Gisele, wants Tommy … [Read more...] about Is Tom Brady retiring? Here’s why Jets fans shouldn’t start celebrating
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday morning Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has yet to formally commit to playing football in 2018, despite those close to him believing he will return for the upcoming season. Patriots’ QB Tom Brady still has not committed to playing in 2018, even though people who know him believe he will back coming season, league sources told ESPN. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 18, 2018 “It’s interesting because the Patriots are still awaiting official word from Tom Brady about his future,” Schefter said on ESPN Wednesday. “But there’s no official word Tom Brady will be back for the 2018 season. He has not yet committed to playing. I think that the people around him and the people inside that organization think that he’ll play, but they don’t know that he will play — and that question lingers as the draft approaches next week.” Schefter’s report is a bit of a mystery — … [Read more...] about Here’s another dose of speculation about Tom Brady’s future
Visit The Boston Globe Share on Twitter Share on Facebook Comment on this Scroll to top of page By Steve Kornacki April 12, 2018 THE REFEREE HELD UP HIS HANDS a few inches apart, and the Ericsson Stadium faithful — what dozens of them remained — let out something meekly resembling a cheer. The visiting New England Patriots were just short of the marker, and now head coach Bill Belichick had a choice. It was fourth down and they were sitting at their own 45 yard line, with just inside of two minutes left, both in the game and in this dispiriting season. If nothing else, dignity was at stake here. The book said to punt. Instead, Belichick looked out at Drew Bledsoe and told his quarterback to stay on the field. Why not just put an end to it with one play here? On the CBS telecast, the announcers perked up. Despite falling just short of a second straight Super Bowl in February, the Patriots last season ended up defined by the reported growing tension between Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and owner Robert Kraft — a development detailed at length in the bombshell ESPN report released in January. Specifically, the fractured relationship between Brady and Belichick stemmed from disagreements over the involvement of Alex Guerrero, Brady’s personal trainer who co-owns the TB12 Therapy Center. And apparently, those conflicts about Guerrero weren’t limited to just Brady and Belichick. According to the Boston Herald, Belichick “chastised” tight end Rob Gronkowski early last season in front of teammates for continuing to train with Guerrero. ESPN reported in January that Belichick had significantly decreased Guerrero’s role with the team at some point last season, which stoked the flames of the discord in Foxborough. Previously, Guerrero was so involved in the … [Read more...] about Rob Gronkowski using Tom Brady’s trainer got Patriots TE on wrong side of Bill Belichick: report
