WEATHER forecasters are warning Brits to brace themselves for 70mph winds and more snow today as the week comes to a miserable end. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for snow and ice in Scotland as well as gale force winds in the east and west of England. According to weather forecasters monitoring the week ahead, thick cloud will blanket the UK from the south of England to the north of Scotland - unleashing a deluge of dreary rain. A Met Office meteorologist said: “Colder air from the north will sweep across the country bringing a risk of ice and for some of us some snow.” Britons can expect “blustery and icy winds” to thrash the nation as Arctic air moves south, Ms Mitchell told the Express. THE Met Office has found Brits are a bit foggy when it comes to getting their heads around weather forecasts. Research by the national weather service found we can struggle to identify even common weather symbols and are often misreading weather maps while preparing for the day ahead. Here are some of the most common mistakes. Overcast A filled-in grey cloud on a weather map of Britain can be a depressingly common site - but many people don't know exactly what it means. A huge 81 per cent of people wrongly thought the grey cloud symbol meant there would be rain that day. More than 60 per cent thought it meant it would be cloudy but didn't know why the symbol differed to the white cloud symbol which would normally denote cloudy conditions. Just 28 per cent of people correctly identified the symbol as meaning it would be an overcast day. Overcast is different to a cloudy day and is defined as conditions where clouds obscure at least 95 per cent of the sky.
