Shreyas Iyer roared back to form with a stroke-filled 64 while the spinners picked up all the 10 wickets as India recorded yet another one-sided 88-run victory over West Indies to wrap up the five-match T20 International series by a comprehensive 4-1 margin here. It was Iyer's half-century and useful contributions from Deepak Hooda (38 off 25 balls) and stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya's (28 off 16 balls) cameo that propelled India to 188 for 7 in 20 overs after being put in to bat. Spinners take all 10 wickets Then, Pandya handed the new ball to Axar Patel (3-1-15-3), who quickly removed makeshift opener Jason Holder (0), Shamarah Brooks (13) and Devon Thomas (10) with three arm balls on a track where balls stopped and gripped off the surface. West Indies were all out for 100 runs inside 16 overs as one of the most lopsided T20I bilateral series came to an end even though India won't be complaining having ticked most of the boxes. ‘Always Believe, Never Give Up’: Real Madrid Manager Carlo Ancelotti Motivated Ahead of UEFA Super Cup Clash
Real Madrid are determined not to be knocked off their perch at the summit of European football this season as they prepare to start their campaign against Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup in Helsinki on Wednesday. Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, who is the only manager to win the Champions League four times, said his side’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool in last season’s final made him “feel like no one should ever take your place”. “And that’s a pretty strong motivation to keep winning,” he said in an interview with UEFA.com. Not Even Tom Cruise Can Save ‘Oblivion’
This article is from the archive of our partner . The score for Oblivion , written by French electronic band M83, pulses and swells beautifully throughout Joseph Kosinski's film, crescendoing to thundering Hans Zimmer heights (with perhaps a little too much of his Inception bwaammmp sound) and softening into Michael Giacchino-esque plaintive piano plinking. It's a terrific score, propulsive and moody, and Kosinski showed good taste in hiring the band — just as he did when he commissioned Daft Punk to score his Tron: Legacy . He also smartly reteamed with his Tron cinematographer Claudio Miranda, who recently won an Oscar for working miracles in Life of Pi . Oblivion is sleek and gorgeous, smooth and matte-finish, full of watery grays and cool blues. And the film's digital effects — giving us a broken moon and the windswept barren expanse of an Earth gone to seed — are employed with a subtle and particular hand. What I'm saying is that the movie looks and sounds great. … [Read more...] about Not Even Tom Cruise Can Save ‘Oblivion’
Reeza Hendricks sets up South Africa win in Ireland T20 opener
Reeza Hendricks hit his fourth successive Twenty20 fifty as South Africa defeated Ireland by 21 runs in their series opener at Bristol on Wednesday. Hendricks, who hit three half-centuries in the Proteas’ recent 2-1 series win over England, top-scored with 74 in a total of 211-5 and shared a third-wicket partnership of 112 with Aiden Markram (56). “I think I’ve been working really hard,” said Hendricks, now one of just five batsmen to have scored four consecutive half-centuries at this level, during the presentation ceremony. “Momentum is important. I’ve been enjoying English conditions.” Lorcan Tucker (78) and George Dockrell (43) kept Ireland in the hunt but when the pair were dismissed off successive balls their side’s hopes of victory went with them. ‘Death-bowling’ specialist Wayne Parnell proved his worth for all he was hit for six off the last ball off the innings by tailender Barry McCarthy as Ireland finished on 190-9. Left-arm paceman Parnell returned figures of … [Read more...] about Reeza Hendricks sets up South Africa win in Ireland T20 opener
Roquan Smith requests a trade after Chicago Bears contract talks break down: ‘The new front office regime doesn’t value me’
The Chicago Bears have made Roquan Smith off-limits to media since training camp opened last month. The inside linebacker has gotten his word out, however, sending a message to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport indicating he has requested a trade. Smith has been present for training camp but has staged a “hold-in,” meaning he is present but not participating in hopes of receiving a new contract. Smith’s long statement indicates that he has reached a boiling point in trying to negotiate a contract without an agent. This, no doubt, escalates the challenge for first-year general manager Ryan Poles. “I wanted to be a Bear for my entire career, help this team bring a Super Bowl back to our city,” Smith’s statement read. “However, they have left me no choice than to request a trade that allows me to play for an organization that truly values what I bring to the table.” The Bears placed Smith on the physically unable to perform list at the outset of camp, a peculiar move and one that came … [Read more...] about Roquan Smith requests a trade after Chicago Bears contract talks break down: ‘The new front office regime doesn’t value me’
Wayne Parnell stars in South Africa’s T20 series win over Ireland
Wayne Parnell’s maiden five-wicket Twenty20 international haul led South Africa to a convincing 44-run victory over Ireland at Bristol on Friday as the Proteas completed a 2-0 series win. The 33-year-old left-arm quick took 5-30 as Ireland, chasing 183 to win, were dismissed for 138 in what was their eighth successive defeat at this level ahead of a T20 World Cup where South Africa will be one of the leading contenders on this form. “It was just about keeping things simple, doing the basics,” said Parnell at the presentation ceremony. Ireland have run India and New Zealand close this season and they only lost Wednesday’s series opener against the Proteas, who’ve now won four of their last five T20s following a 2-1 success against England, by 21 runs. But Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie accepted his side had been well-beaten on this occasion. “We didn’t show up with the bat,” he said. “It gets very hard when you lose so many wickets.” Parnell put a dent in Ireland’s chase … [Read more...] about Wayne Parnell stars in South Africa’s T20 series win over Ireland
