Finance and Health Minister T. Harish Rao has announced that as many as 12,750 posts in the Health department would be filled up shortly and the notification would be issued soon. He said that the notification was already issued for 1,326 posts. Participating in a Doctors’ Day programme at Siddipet town on Friday night, Mr. Rao recalled the services rendered by Dr. B.C. Roy as the Chief Minister of West Bengal and paid rich tributes to him. The Minister said that the government has been taking steps to improve the infrastructure in hospitals and now, it was the turn of doctors to create confidence among people so that they come to government hospitals for treatment. “Let us join hands in improving the health sector in the State and help it reach the top. Mentally challenged girl ‘gang-raped’ at Gajuwaka in Visakhapatnam
A 20-year-old mentally challenged girl was allegedly gang-raped by three persons at Old Gajuwaka area here. The incident came to light after Gajuwaka police registered a case following a complaint from the family members of the victim late on Friday night. According to reports, the three accused are said to be employees of a two-wheeler showroom-cum-service centre. Apparently, the girl’s father is also an employee at the same office. All the persons reside in the quarters given by the office, in the same building. Police said that the victim girl stays in the house alone, as her parents leave for work and her sister goes to a college. Police suspect that three persons have allegedly raped the girl with the support of another woman, who stays nearby her house. The suspected persons were picked up for questioning. JNTU University, Vizianagaram, to introduce new courses
JNTU University (Gurajada-Vizianagaram) is gearing to improve infrastructure and introduce new courses to ensure good careers for students, according to its principal R. Rajeswara Rao. He said the government had given priority for the the development of the new university by sanctioning additional funds which were required for providing more classrooms, hostels, laboratories and other facilities. “We are planning to introduce new self-finance courses such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and other courses. Many students who are joining private universities for those courses will get an opportunity to pursue them in Vizianagaram itself. We sought permission from the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education for introducing these courses in 2022-23,” said Mr. Rao. “As advised by University Registrar G. Workers of the Telugu Desam Party and Left parties staged separate demonstrations in front of the RTC bus station here on Saturday in protest against the “hefty” hike in bus fares effected by the state-owned Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. The TDP activists led by its Ongole unit vice-president K. Srinivasa Rao raised slogans against the Jagan Mohan Reddy government for imposing over ₹2,000 crore burden on the common people, who mainly depended upon the APSRTC for transport. Andhra Pradesh: Exempt disposable glasses from plastic ban, govt. urged
The Andhra Pradesh Thermoformers Association appealed to the State and Central governments to exempt disposable or plastic glasses from the ban imposed on July 1. In a press conference here on Saturday, Association president D. Srinivasa Rao said that the State government had banned disposable glasses and permitted the use of certain single-use plastics having over 75 microns of plastic but the disposable glasses being manufactured now have more than 100 microns of plastic. Considering this, the governments should exempt such glasses from the ban, he said. “Disposable glasses are mostly used at function halls where they are disposed of properly and can be fully recycled. It is unfortunate that disposable glasses are banned even as the packaging of a wide range of food items continues to be plastic,” Mr. Srinivasa Rao said.
