New pictures have shown the Queen standing without her walking stick as she is presented with a special award for her "unstinting service" over the past 70 years. Her Majesty was given the Canterbury Cross to recognise her contribution to the Church of England over her long reign. The 96-year-old head of state held a face-to-face audience with the Archbishop of Canterbury at Windsor Castle today to receive the award. It comes after she skipped the public procession during Garter Day and did not make any appearances at Royal Ascot last week due to her ongoing mobility issues. During the presentation today, the Most Rev Justin Welby gave the Queen the small silver cross, inspired by a 9th century Saxon brooch and incorporating a triquetra pattern, as a “heartfelt symbol” of the church’s “love, loyalty and affection”. Queen is determined to keep Prince Andrew around because he is ‘intensely loyal’
Prince Andrew's fall from grace after his involvement in the Jeffery Epstein scandal has been widely publicised - but constant claims that he wants to be rehabilitated back into the royal fold continue to surface. The Queen's ongoing support for The Duke of York has also prompted many people to question why the monarch is still standing by her son's side, seemingly unphased by the troubles he has encountered. It is well-known that Andrew is considered to be Her Majesty's favourite child and still retains that title despite recent events. The reason for their closeness was unpicked when The Mirror's royal podcast, Pod Save the Queen , spoke to the famed biographer, Andrew Morton about his 25th book 'The Queen'. The show's host Zoe Forsey spoke to the author and asked about Her Majesty's unwavering support for her second son and why he thinks Andrew will never lose his mother's confidence. It is widely believed that Prince Andrew is The Queen's favourite child ( … [Read more...] about Queen is determined to keep Prince Andrew around because he is ‘intensely loyal’
Princess Beatrice makes jovial quip at snappers as she arrives at Royal Ascot
Princess Beatrice was in high spirits and joked with photographers as she arrived at Royal Ascot . Turning up alongside her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at the Berkshire race course she looked glamorous as she walked through the gates with the other punters. Beatrice chose a gorgeous summery floral dress for the occasion, which she teamed with an elegant hat, a sophisticated belt and a clutch bag bearing her initials BY - Beatrice York. But some royal fans have noticed she was also wearing a name tag attached to her dress - as is customary at Royal Ascot, and this year it looked very different to the name she had on the badge in previous years. This is because the badge read HRH Princess Beatrice, Mrs Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, reflecting she tied the knot with husband Edo in July 2020. Queen has ‘ring of steel’ to halt Harry and Meghan documentary bid, expert says
The Queen has a "ring of steel" around her with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle warned by advisors not to "even think" about using her as a source of content for a Netflix documentary, said a royal expert. Russell Myers says Buckingham Palace aides have put a strict cordon around the Queen but admits that it is impossible to know what the Sussexes will choose to do with Netflix. "There is an absolutely a ring of steel around the Queen in terms of her advisors," Mr Myers told the US outlet Today, reported the Express . "I mean, they certainly would be advising Harry and Megan to not even think about it for a second, but who knows what they will do? "They would definitely have been advised not to speak to Oprah Winfrey not to speak to Gayle King not to speak to the American journalists last week and yet they still keep on doing it. A "ring of steel" is around the Queen, says royal expert Mr Myers ( Image: Getty Images) "I mean, it makes you wonder how much the … [Read more...] about Queen has ‘ring of steel’ to halt Harry and Meghan documentary bid, expert says
Tea with benefits: Lessons from the Royal Family
Kolkata is often called the last outpost of the British Empire. Ian Jack once wrote in The Guardian that two things united Kolkata and London — “the first is expensive property and the second is the institution once known as the gentlemen’s club” with dress codes which “while they have done away with cummerbunds, still make the visitor think twice before he sets foot in one.” A friend who belongs to a prestigious gentlemen’s club in London is nowhere as much at home as in their counterparts in Kolkata. He can do Bengal Club, Calcutta Club and Tollygunge Club in one day and be dressed right for all of them. And the office bearers of these stately clubs of Kolkata , tickled pink at the attention from a bona fide Londoner, never fail to roll out the frayed red carpet to welcome him. That this Kolkata has been so nonchalant about the Platinum Jubilee of the Queen feels like a personal snub to Her Majesty. This is a city that created Corona sandesh during the pandemic and Football … [Read more...] about Tea with benefits: Lessons from the Royal Family

Prince Harry poses “bigger problem” for “frail” monarchy than Prince Andrew
Prince Harry poses a "bigger problem" for the British monarchy than Prince Andrew, whose damage to the royal family has been "ring-fenced" according to author and former editor of Vanity Fair , Tina Brown. Speaking to Bloomberg 's In The City podcast, Brown discussed the condition of the monarchy in the year Britain celebrates Queen Elizabeth II 's Platinum Jubilee , her 70th year on the throne. During the podcast, Brown said that "the monarchy seems more reassuring than ever, but that monarchy is at a frail point because everybody knows this is the last jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II and the question of how they will feel British after the queen dies is a big one." The author of The Palace Papers also described Prince Andrew , who made headlines in June over his canceled planned public appearance at the Garter Day ceremony , as having "not enhanced the gravitas of the crown" following his involvement in a sexual assult lawsuit in 2021 . The lawsuit was … [Read more...] about Prince Harry poses “bigger problem” for “frail” monarchy than Prince Andrew
William says Caribbean community “profoundly wronged” by U.K. Government
Prince William, fresh from celebrating his 40th birthday, has made a politically charged speech marking "Windrush Day," a day of commemoration in Britain dedicated to a generation of Commonwealth nationals who helped rebuild the country after World War II. A scandal was uncovered in 2017 when it emerged that thousands of people who moved to Britain between 1948 and 1973—known as the "Windrush generation" after the name of a passenger liner that brought the first post-war Caribbean migrants to the U.K.—had been wrongly classed as illegal migrants, detained and in some cases deported. William's speech on Wednesday calling members of the Windrush generation "victims of racism" and "profoundly wronged" by the U.K. government is a rare example of the prince weighing in on a polarizing political issue and is likely to generate criticism. He said: "We know without question, that the Windrush Generation have made our culture richer, our services stronger, and our fellow countrymen … [Read more...] about William says Caribbean community “profoundly wronged” by U.K. Government
William and Kate honour Windrush generation at memorial unveiling
Britain would be poorer without the efforts of the Windrush generation, Prince William said as he and Kate attended the unveiling of a memorial at London's Waterloo Station. The 12-foot statue - of a man, woman, and child in their Sunday best standing on top of suitcases - was unveiled on Wednesday to mark Windrush Day. It is one of dozens of events and activities happening across England. Next year, it will be 75 years since the HMT Empire Windrush arrived at Tilbury docks in 1948, bringing 500 passengers from the Caribbean. The government, which has provided £1m in funding for the monument, said it "symbolises the courage, commitment, and resilience of the thousands of men, women, and children who travelled to the UK to start new lives from 1948 to 1971". Advertisement It also acknowledges the Windrush generation's "outstanding contribution" to British society and is intended to be a "permanent place of reflection". The Queen sent her … [Read more...] about William and Kate honour Windrush generation at memorial unveiling
