A DAD was hit with a parking fine after accidentally pressing "o" instead of "0" when typing in his car registration. Scott Wood was left furious after finding a £25 penalty notice stuck to his windscreen when he returned from running errands in Goole, East Yorks. He had tried to find a ticket machine when he stopped his car — but the nearest one was broken. Tracking down a warden, Scott was told he could pay the £2.40 for his parking via text instead. But he received the "petty" fine on July 27 after entering the slight typo as he tried to book himself a two-hour stay. Angry Scott, 29, said: "£25 is £25 and I will pay it — but it's the principle that they think they can get away with it." But the dad-of-three, from nearby Driffield, also said he plans to mount an appeal — despite the threat of the fine rising to £50. He said: "It's just so ridiculous. "The best part of the situation is that the traffic warden who told me to text the … [Read more...] about Dad slapped with parking fine after pressing ‘O’ instead of ‘0’ when entering his number plate

0 Have your say Car free zones could be piloted outside primary schools in Cambridgeshire to ease traffic and cut air pollution if a trial in Cambridge proves successful. According to Cllr Noel Kavanagh: “The purpose of the no car zones are to encourage parents to leave their cars behind and have children walk and cycle to school.“The roads outside the schools are not physically closed to traffic; instead, the councils use temporary automatic number plate recognition cameras to scan if vehicles passing through the pedestrian zones have permission.”Local residents and their visitors are able to enter or leave the zones by applying for an advance access permit (which will be free). Motorists driving in the zones during the peak times without a valid permit receive a penalty charge notice. The motion will be put to the full council on July 17. If it is successful three primary schools will be the initial subjects of the trials for a period of 18 … [Read more...] about Are car free zones outside primary schools coming to Cambridgeshire?
A PARKING warden allegedly slapped a funeral car with a ticket as the driver went to "help load a body" into the accompanying hearse. George Portsmouth, 30, was visiting North Cumbria University Hospital in Carlisle, Cumbria, when he captured the unfolding incident on his camera. Despite watching the cortege car accompany the hearse into the hospital grounds, George claims the attendant waited for both drivers to disappear inside the building before doing the deed. Shockingly, George then says the UK Parking Control (UKPC) warden RAN AWAY after he placed a ticket on the window so he couldn't be confronted. Pictures seem to show the cortege driver, who George believes was a fellow undertaker, return to find the ticket and show it to the hearse driver in disbelief. The UKPC warden's actions have been slammed as "unbelievable", "absolutely disgusting" and "cowardly" on social media. HGV driver George said: “I saw the warden was watching what they were doing and the second … [Read more...] about Parking warden slaps ticket on funeral car as driver went into hospital to load body into a nearby hearse
