Ukraine's army released a video on Thursday showing how its forces successfully recaptured Snake Island from Russia , shortly after Moscow said it withdrew its forces from the strategic Black Sea outpost as a "gesture of goodwill." Moscow said on Thursday that its forces had "finished fulfilling their tasks" and "demonstrated that Russia is not blocking the UN's efforts to organise a humanitarian corridor to export agricultural goods from Ukraine." Kyiv pushed back against Russia's statement, saying that it drove Russian President Vladimir Putin 's troops from the island with military force in an overnight assault. Ukraine's armed forces released a video showing an offensive on the island, which made headlines in the early days of the war when Ukrainians stationed there told a Russian cruiser: "Russian warship, go f**k yourself!" "Unable to withstand the fire of Ukraine's artillery, missile and air strikes, Russian army left Snake Island," the commander-in-chief of the … [Read more...] about How Ukraine recaptured Snake Island from Russia

Russia halts Mariupol deliveries as ‘almost all’ food, goods gone: Ukraine
Ukrainian officials say the Russian-occupied city of Mariupol is running desperately low on food and essential goods with no new expected deliveries from the occupying forces. Alexander Motuzyanyk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, on Thursday presented the grim outlook for the southern port city that's seen some of the heaviest fighting in the war with Russia. His assessment follows humanitarian agencies also reporting they've been unable to deliver relief to Mariupol's civilian population. "Our intelligence reports that in Mariupol, as well as in most of the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russian invaders, almost all stocks of food, as well as essential goods, have been exhausted, and there are no new deliveries from Russia," Motuzyanyk said at a press briefing in Kyiv, reports Interfax-Ukraine news agency. Motuzyanyk said that there has been a big jump in prices of essential foods since the start of June and a drop in humanitarian aid, according to the news … [Read more...] about Russia halts Mariupol deliveries as ‘almost all’ food, goods gone: Ukraine
The Event Of Odessa Falling Into Russian Hands Scares US, Allies. Here’s Why
Without Odessa, Ukraine cannot even think of a rebuild, that is if and when the war ends. The nation has been set back by decades following the war waged on it by Russia – or what Russian president Vladimir Putin calls military operation – and cast an economic uncertainty on Europe as well as globally. It is important also to understand why the Russian takeover of Odessa scares Europe and the US. If Odessa falls, Russia can access Moldova’s Russophone regions like Transnistria as well. Along with Moldova’s Transnistria and southeastern Ukraine, it would mean that Russia controls Black Sea and a significant part of world trade. Odessa port has the facility of dealing with various cargo types. It handles all kinds of shipments starting from crude oil, petroleum products, LPG and vegetable oils to all kinds of metals, cast iron and bulk such as sugar, grains, paper bundles, and perishable goods like fruits and other items. Ukraine is economically reliant on Odessa and Russian forces … [Read more...] about The Event Of Odessa Falling Into Russian Hands Scares US, Allies. Here’s Why
All eyes are on the battle for the east. But the south might hold the key to Ukraine’s fate.
For weeks, the world’s attention has been fixed on the battle for Ukraine’s east , where Russian forces have been pressing a painstaking advance . But in the south, recent developments suggest Russia’s hold on territory it seized there may be increasingly fragile. Moscow's troops withdrew from a key strategic outpost off Ukraine’s southern Black Sea coast Thursday, the latest blow to Russian President Vladimir Putin in the area. It comes amid a nascent Ukrainian counteroffensive around Kherson as well as growing signs of partisan activity and the Kremlin straining to exert control: The south may be flying under the radar for now, but analysts say it could ultimately prove decisive in the struggle for Ukraine’s future. Biggest exchange of prisoners of war since Russian invasion, Ukrainian military says June 30, 2022 01:11 Russia has controlled large chunks of Ukraine’s south — including the entire Kherson region — since the early days … [Read more...] about All eyes are on the battle for the east. Multiple Russian party members arrested, fined for denouncing Putin’s war
Russia has ramped up its crackdown on opposition to Vladimir Putin 's Ukraine war by arresting and fining party members, lawyers and activists who have publicly denounced the ongoing conflict. Oleg Mammadov, an activist and member of Russia's Libertarian Party, is just one of a growing number of people across the country who have been punished in the wake of new stringent laws that effectively criminalize all criticism of Putin's war. In the early hours of Friday morning, Mammadov's apartment was searched, the social media channels of the branch of the Libertarian Party in Bashkortostan, Russia, said in a statement. The 20-year-old wasn't at home, but his grandmother was, the statement said, noting that Russian security forces told her that the search was being conducted because "Oleg is allegedly spreading fake [information] about the [Russian] army on his Telegram channel." Russian security forces reportedly seized an old laptop, a router, and also looked through messages … [Read more...] about Multiple Russian party members arrested, fined for denouncing Putin’s war
Watch: Ukrainian troops blast Russian HQ with British-made M777 howitzers
Ukrainian troops blitzed a Russian base and reportedly destroyed their headquarters, a warehouse and armored vehicles, as can be seen in footage released by the Ukrainian military. The Ukrainian military said they used British-made M777 howitzers to destroy the Russian base. The Ukrainian Center for Strategic Communications (StratCom) said Wednesday: "Three howitzers (M777) on the occupiers' armored vehicles, headquarters and warehouse." Manufactured by the Global Combat Systems division of BAE Systems, the M777 is used by the ground forces of Australia, Canada, India, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, and the United States. Zenger News contacted the Ukrainian Center for Strategic Communications for further comment, as well as the Russian Defense Ministry, but had not received a reply at the time of writing. Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 in what the Kremlin is calling a "special military operation." Friday marks the 127th day of the invasion. Ukraine “big victory” at Snake Island could be a turning point
Russian troops withdrawing from Ukraine's Snake Island in the Black Sea, after repeated bombardments, could have wide-ranging significance, current and former Ukrainian officials have said. Snake Island became globally famous thanks to the now-legendary "go f*** yourself" response of the defending garrison when told to surrender to a Russian warship. Moscow has explained the withdrawal as a "gesture of goodwill" that shows Russia is "not impeding [United Nations] efforts to organize a humanitarian corridor to ship agricultural products from Ukraine," and avoid catastrophic global food shortages. But Ukrainian officials have dismissed Russia's explanation and declared the regaining of the island after 127 days of occupation as a significant strategic and symbolic victory. Andriy Zagorodnyuk, Ukraine's former defense minister, told Newsweek the forced Russian withdrawal denies Moscow use of what was essentially an "unsinkable ship." The island hosted Russian … [Read more...] about Ukraine “big victory” at Snake Island could be a turning point
Turkish President Erdogan Makes Call to ‘Intensify’ Efforts to End War in Ukraine
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday called for an intensified effort to end the war in Ukraine, adding that there were “no losers in a just peace”. Erdogan said Turkey was trying to pursue “a balanced policy” because of its heavy reliance on Russian energy imports. Turkey has supplied Ukraine with armed drones and other weapons, but Erdogan also enjoys a close working relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “We should intensify our diplomatic efforts for a long-lasting ceasefire,” Erdogan told reporters at the end of a NATO summit focused on Russia’s invasion of its pro-Western neighbor. The Madrid gathering saw the US-led military alliance formally invite Finland and Sweden to join the bloc. Their membership applications were held up until the last moment by Erdogan, who sought guarantees that the Nordic countries would join Turkey’s fight against banned Kurdish militants and to swiftly extradite suspects. The dispute was resolved by a 10-point … [Read more...] about Turkish President Erdogan Makes Call to ‘Intensify’ Efforts to End War in Ukraine
Russian war in Ukraine gives Putin reason to interfere in midterms: Experts
As the United States edges closer to the midterm elections, intelligence officials expect Russia to ramp up interference efforts in an attempt to disrupt the political process. Some experts believe the Kremlin will engage in cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns with even more fervor this year due to the war in Ukraine. Intelligence reports have laid out significant evidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized cyberattacks and the spreading of propaganda during the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections in an effort to undermine former President Donald Trump 's opponents. The intelligence community is once again concerned about Russia interfering with U.S. elections , and experts believe politicians who are outspoken critics of Putin's war in Ukraine will be the biggest targets. The Kremlin understands that President Joe Biden "played a key role in unifying our allies behind strong sanctions against Russia and strong support for Ukraine," Brian Taylor, an … [Read more...] about Russian war in Ukraine gives Putin reason to interfere in midterms: Experts
