Children of top British diplomats get sent to elite private schools at the public’s expense
TOP diplomats sent their children to the country’s elite private schools – costing taxpayers £27 million. School fees were allocated for nearly 1,500 children to attend elite establishments. Only half of the 350 families who benefited were serving in posts abroad, figures show. Private education totalling £122,000 was given for pupils to attend Eton College – where ex-PM David Cameron attended. One school – Sevenoaks in Kent – received £450,000 for pupils from government funds, we can reveal. A total of £12,703,109 was paid to British schools educating 393 diplomats’ children. A further £14,339,087 was given to foreign schools to educate a further 1074 children, figures for 2016/17 show.
