August 8, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

A video of Princess Diana reprimanding an intrusive media member during a 1997 humanitarian visit to Angola has gone viral on TikTok. The clip, showing a meeting between the princess and two victims of landmine explosions, has been viewed more than 3 million times on the video-sharing platform with over 300,000 likes after being uploaded by user "1ladyydianawales." The short scene showing the princess pushing away the recording apparatus of an intruding media member during the meeting formed part of a much longer documentary titled Diary of a Princess which saw a camera crew follow Diana on her Red Cross visit to Angola, released as part of the BBC 's Heart of the Matter series. The clip's subtitles read "Princess Diana noticing the young lady is getting nervous," adding, "so she pushes the microphone away." The program featured a specially recorded narration by Diana herself and was broadcast on February 11, 1997, just six months before her death at the age of 36 in … [Read more...] about Princess Diana reprimands intrusive media member in viral TikTok video

Lilibet could inherit jewellery worth £410k from Meghan Markle and Princess Diana

August 8, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk

The Queen is the proud owner of some seriously impressive and historic jewels, many of which cost more than most people could expect to earn in their lifetime. And other members of the Royal Family also have their own collection of sentimental and eye-wateringly expensive gems. Many of these pieces will one day be inherited by younger members of the family, such as Princess Charlotte and Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor . Much like her second cousin, Prince Harry and Meghan's daughter will likely be the owner of some of her mother's jewellery, as well as some pieces that previously belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales . According to Jewellery experts at Steven Stone , the amount that Lili could one day inherit amounts to a staggering £410k. Lilibet could inherit a special piece that Meghan wore on her wedding day in 2018 ( Image: Getty Images) Topping the list as something Meghan would almost certainly pass down to her daughter is her £150k … [Read more...] about Lilibet could inherit jewellery worth £410k from Meghan Markle and Princess Diana

Meghan Markle’s year in fashion as she celebrates 41st birthday

August 4, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Meghan Markle is well known for her strong sense of personal style and taste for bold simplistic fashions. Throughout her time in the U.K., Meghan was fiercely proud of maintaining control over her public-facing image by not using the services of a professional stylist and allowing her outfits to become a true expression of her sense of self. Over the past year, the duchess has displayed a number of show-stopping fashion choices which have evolved over time from when she first became a working member of the royal family into a more refined signature style today. Here, as Meghan turns 41, Newsweek looks at a collection of Meghan's most significant fashion looks from the past year. September 23, 2021 – One World Observatory Meghan's first prominent public appearance following her 40th birthday in 2020 was to undertake a visit to New York City with Prince Harry , the centerpiece of which was a speech given by the couple at the Global Citizen Live vaccine equality event … [Read more...] about Meghan Markle’s year in fashion as she celebrates 41st birthday

Harry files new lawsuit against U.K. government in sign tensions remain

August 4, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Prince Harry has formally filed a second lawsuit against the U.K. government at a time when commentators have suggested tensions with the royal family are easing. The Duke of Sussex is already suing the British Home Office over its decision to remove his police protection, first taken in 2020, which he says means it is unsafe in Britain for him, Meghan Markle and their children Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor. Now he has filed a second lawsuit against the same government department but also naming the Metropolitan Police as a second defendant, the High Court confirmed to Newsweek . It will focus on a decision in January 2022 that individuals should not be allowed to pay privately to receive police protection. A legal expert previously told Newsweek that if he wins, there is the potential it could pave the way for a much wider crop of the rich and famous to file similar claims against the government to upgrade their own security arrangements, though the devil, … [Read more...] about Harry files new lawsuit against U.K. government in sign tensions remain

Harry “was still at peak rage” at key stage of memoir and may now tone down

August 3, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Prince Harry may "want to readjust" his forthcoming memoir after interviews with his ghostwriter were undertaken during a period of "peak rage, with Britain, with the Royal Family , with his sibling," according to a journalist friend of Princess Diana's. The Duke of Sussex is publishing his life story with Penguin Random House and the book is expected to drop towards the end of 2022. Royal watchers will be keen to see whether the book re-ignites royal feuds or serves as an olive branch after the bombshells of Harry and Meghan Markle 's interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021. Richard Kay, a friend of Harry's mother and a Daily Mail columnist, told True Royalty TV's The Royal Beat : "There is still that possibility that the entreaties of the Royal Family have not fallen on deaf ears, and that Harry is having second thoughts about when he publishes this book at all. "The book was completed, we believe in, about January—at least Harry's part in it—the interviews. That … [Read more...] about Harry “was still at peak rage” at key stage of memoir and may now tone down

Blonde: Marilyn Monroe’s Biopic Director Warns Ana De Armas Starrer Has ‘Something to Offend Everyone’

August 8, 2022 by www.news18.com

One of the most anticipated titles at the upcoming Venice Film Festival is Blonde. A biopic of the iconic Hollywood actress, Marilyn Monroe, based on the 2000 novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, the movie “boldly reimagines the life of Marilyn Monroe, exploring the split between her public and private selves,” says the Netflix tagline. And headlining it will be the star, Ana de Armas, who has given compelling performances in Sergio, Knives Out, and The Gray Man. She had a very short but memorable role in James Bond’s last adventure, No Time To Die. Blonde director Andrew Dominik had released a teaser of the film a while ago. Speaking about the teaser and film, he told Vulture: “It’s a film that definitely has a morality about it. But it swims in very ambiguous waters because I don’t think it will be as cut-and-dried as people want to see it…There’s something in it to offend everyone.” It will be critical of American sacred cows, and “they include Kennedy” with whom she … [Read more...] about Blonde: Marilyn Monroe’s Biopic Director Warns Ana De Armas Starrer Has ‘Something to Offend Everyone’

Queen’s traditional Balmoral welcome scaled back amid mobility problems

August 9, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Queen Elizabeth II's traditional welcome ceremony held each year when she takes up residence at her Balmoral Scottish castle for the summer has been scaled back in another example of established traditions being altered because of the 96-year-old monarch's advanced age and health issues. The queen has been in residence on her Scottish estate since late July, where she has been staying at Craigowan Lodge—a small country house built by Queen Victoria—while Balmoral Castle was open to the public. When the castle closes to the public in August each year, the queen takes up official residence and she receives a steady stream of guests including family members and a traditional visit from the prime minister. The monarch usually stays at Balmoral until the fall, returning in late September or early October. Each year, to mark the queen's moving into the castle, an official guard of honor is formed outside the estate gates from an armed forces regiment. The queen traditionally has … [Read more...] about Queen’s traditional Balmoral welcome scaled back amid mobility problems

Kate Middleton’s uncle says Cambridges have “hands full” with Windsor move

August 8, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Prince William and Kate Middleton 's potential move to a cottage on Queen Elizabeth II 's Windsor Castle estate will see them have their "hands full" over the summer, according to the duchess' uncle. Gary Goldsmith , Kate's maternal uncle who has become the most outspoken member of her close-knit family, has told British tabloid newspaper The Sun that the move will bring with it a new chapter for the Cambridges. "William and Kate are going to have their hands full this summer as they move home to be nearer the Queen and settle the kids into a new school," he said. "But I think they are ready for the next chapter in their lives." Though a move to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor Great Park for William and Kate has been speculated on for a number of months, there has been no official statement from either Kensington or Buckingham Palace to confirm this. In June, a senior palace source said that a firm decision had yet to be made by the couple: "We're obviously aware that … [Read more...] about Kate Middleton’s uncle says Cambridges have “hands full” with Windsor move
