Prince William is seeking to ensure that Prince Andrew steps back completely from his role as a royal in the wake of his ongoing sex scandal, sources say. The Duke of York stepped down from royal duties after the Queen stripped him of his military titles and HRH status in the wake of a sex scandal in January. Andrew denied the allegations against him and he later came to an out of court settlement with his accuser . The settlement is not an admission of guilt. Now, it appears that Prince William is taking more of a leading role in ensuring Prince Andrew stays behind closed doors. Prince William during the Order of the Garter event at Windsor Castle ( Image: PA) One insider told the Daily Mail that William has "strong views" on the Duke of York and believes that "his insistence in trying to cling on to a public role is highly dangerous for the institution". KIGALI, Rwanda (AP) – Leaders of Commonwealth nations are meeting in Rwanda Friday in a summit that promises to tackle climate change, tropical diseases and other challenges deepened by the COVID-19 pandemic. The summit for Commonwealth heads of state in Kigali, the Rwandan capital, is the culmination of a series of meetings earlier in the week that have reported some success in efforts to improve the lives of people in the 54-nation bloc that is home to 2.5 billion people. Those numbers are set to rise with the expected admission into the Commonwealth of the African nations of Togo and Gabon, which have asked to join the bloc despite having no colonial history with Britain. The Commonwealth comprises mostly former British colonies, but countries such as Mozambique and Rwanda – a former Belgian colony with an Anglophile leader – have in the past launched successful bids to join the group whose titular head is Queen Elizabeth II. Top civil servant apologises for saying Home Office ‘loves a good crisis’
A top civil servant today told MPs there is nothing more the Home Office loves "than a good crisis", before apologising for using "overly flippant words". Matthew Rycroft was quizzed by the Commons Home Affairs Committee, and asked why there "always seems to be a crisis going on" in the department. He confidently told MPs: "You may recall when the Home Secretary and I set up a transformation programme for the Home Office, called One Home Office, one of the things that we were seeking to unlock was the sense in the department that we do go from crisis to crisis. “You know, there’s nothing that the Home Office loves better than a good crisis. And of course, responding well to crises is an important part of the functioning of a department of state. But there is a lot more to it than that. “And what I am seeking to do is to get us better at dealing with business as usual, and preventing things from becoming crises.” Home Secretary Priti Patel ( Image: PRU/AFP via Getty … [Read more...] about Top civil servant apologises for saying Home Office ‘loves a good crisis’
