Prince Charles allies accused of briefing against Queen after Diana’s death

May 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Prince Charles' palace allies played an "unpleasant game of one-upmanship" with Queen Elizabeth II 's staff in the days after Princess Diana's death, according to a new biography. Andrew Morton caused a political storm in the 1990s when his book Diana: Her True Story revealed Charles' affair with Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, for the first time. Now he has written a new book, The Queen , which details how courtiers loyal to the Prince of Wales attempted to shield the future king from the public's wrath. The book quotes an official present with the royals in the week after Diana's death, who reportedly said: "One of the most dangerous things which took place during those fraught days was that the two palaces were totally at odds with each other." Morton wrote: "In the early stages, the prince's spin doctors at St James's Palace tried to portray Charles as decisive and democratic while painting all the Queen's men as dithering, delaying and hiding behind precedent … [Read more...] about Prince Charles allies accused of briefing against Queen after Diana’s death

Buffalo shooter saw New York’s gun laws as his advantage

May 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

The suspected Buffalo shooter reportedly saw New York's strict gun laws as an advantage in the recent attack that left 10 people dead. According to the Buffalo News, law enforcement officials said that they believe an online manifesto was written by the suspected shooter, identified as 18-year-old Payton Gendron. In the manifesto , Gendron allegedly wrote about how he planned to "kill as many Blacks as possible" in the attack and decided to carry it out in New York due to its strict open carry gun laws, which would make it harder for someone to stop him, the Buffalo News reported. The Giffords Law Center states that New York State residents are prohibited from openly carrying a loaded handgun outside of their homes without a carry license. "The state also prohibits any person from possessing a 'loaded' short-barreled shotgun or rifle or an assault weapon outside of his or her home or place of business," the Giffords Law Center said. Amber Heard’s rep says truth “not on Johnny Depp’s side” as trial resumes

May 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Amber Heard's spokesperson has said that "truth is not on [Johnny] Depp's side," ahead of the former couple returning to court for their defamation trial . All eyes have been on the Hollywood stars amid their trial, after Depp, 58, sued Heard, 36, for $50 million after she wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post in 2018 stating that she was a survivor of domestic abuse. Depp was never mentioned by name, but his legal team argue that the insinuation has caused a sullied reputation and a huge loss of earnings for the actor. Heard has made a counterclaim against Depp for $100 million. In the hours leading up to their return to Virginia's Fairfax County Circuit Court on Monday, a spokesperson for Heard told Newsweek they're anticipating Depp's team will put on a courtroom display that's "equal parts shameful and desperate." October 23, 2018 by www.newsweek.com

Democratic congressional candidate Scott Wallace of Pennsylvania cursed at his opponent Brian Fitzpatrick during a debate in a synagogue, telling the Republican representative to "f*** off." "Ironically, there was a later question about the need for civility in politics," Fitzpatrick told WBCB News. "Well, a good start is to not use vulgarities in the sanctuary of a synagogue in the middle of a congressional debate." The expletives came during a debate between the two candidates on Sunday night at the Congregation Tifereth Israel in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. The two candidates are running for the House in the state's first congressional district, a largely Jewish community. According to WBCB, Wallace's outburst "silenced" the audience. Fitzpatrick, who was first elected in 2016, said that he was "stunned" by Wallace's comment. The Democrat dropped the expletive when being questioned about his campaign's attack ad against Fitzpatrick's position on health care. The ad states that … [Read more...] about A Democratic congressional candidate told his GOP opponent to “f*** off” during a debate held in a synagogue
