PRINCE Charles was desperate to call off his wedding to Diana but feared backlash from the royal family, it's reported. In a new biography, he describes how he wanted to break off his engagement to the aristocrat's daughter when "I discovered how awful the prospects were". In the explosive book, serialised in the Daily Mail ,Charles describes himself as being "permanently between the devil and the deep blue sea" ahead of his 1981 nuptials. Author Robert Jobson has accompanied the prince for 18 months on tours around the world. The book, Charles at Seventy: Thoughts, Hopes and Dreams, marks Charles' 70th birthday in November. Jobson says that Charles knew he and Diana were not suited "within just a handful of meetings". PRINCE Charles revealed on a tour of a whisky distillery he had toasted news of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s baby “several times”. Charles spoke about becoming a grandfather again during a visit to Royal Lochnagar Distillery in Aberdeenshire, where he tried a 30-year-old malt made in his honour. When asked if he had toasted Harry and Meghan’s news, the Prince of Wales — who is known as the Duke of Rothesay while in Scotland — replied: “Oh yes, absolutely. PRINCE Charles’ old Cambridge college was slammed yesterday for an attempt to scrap the mention of poppies in plans for the university’s Remembrance Day. Trinity was among a string of colleges to back a motion that did not even recommend a minute’s silence.Cambridge University Students’ Union. In an initial poll, 30 of 31 representatives voted to remove the mention of poppies and “British war veterans”. The motion was debated and eventually defeated. But Trinity was blasted for “disrespecting” their heritage.
