Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been named the Premier League manager of the season for 2021/22. The 54-year-old German helped ensure one of the best title races in history went down to the final minutes of the campaign as his Liverpool team pushed Manchester City all the way. IPL 2022 – FULL COVERAGE | SCHEDULE | RESULTS | ORANGE CAP | PURPLE CAP | POINTS TABLE Liverpool were 14 points behind Man City in January but won 16 and drew two of their remaining matches to finish on 92 points, losing fewer matches, two, than any other team across the campaign. In beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 on May 22, Liverpool went the entire season unbeaten at home, doing so for a joint-record fifth time in the Premier League. New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly – how rich is he and how did he make his money?
The Premier League and the UK Government have approved the sale of Chelsea Football Club to a consortium led by American businessman Todd Boehly . Boehly, 48, is leading the group in the record-breaking purchase of the third-best team in England after 19 years of ownership from ousted oligarch Roman Abramovich . Times have been good for the Blues, with 21 trophies including five Premier Leagues and two Champions Leagues. The takeover, worth £4.25billion, comes at the end of lengthy negotiations and will leave Abramovich without a penny from the sale, as his assets are still frozen after he was sanctioned following Russia ’s invasion of Ukraine . A government statement read: "Late last night the UK Government reached a position where we could issue a licence that permits the sale of Chelsea Football Club. "Following extensive work, we are now satisfied that the full proceeds of the sale will not benefit Roman Abramovich or any other sanctioned individual," it … [Read more...] about New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly – how rich is he and how did he make his money?
Chelsea takeover at risk of collapse amid “alarm in government” over Roman Abramovich
The sale of Chelsea to a group spearheaded by American businessman Todd Boehly is in doubt with the British government claiming sanctioned owner Roman Abramovich is unwilling to accept certain terms of the sale they have imposed. The government is demanding that the £2.6bn fee agreed at the beginning of the month is placed in a holding account until it is guaranteed it can go to a foundation to help victims of the war in Ukraine , as promised by Abramovich more than two months ago. But the 55-year-old, who was sanctioned on March 10 because the government said that it had proof he has long held close links to Russia president Vladimir Putin , wants the £1.6bn he has loaned the club since buying it in 2003 sent to a company registered in Jersey called Camberley International Investments, senior Westminster sources have briefed. ( Image: AFP via Getty Images) There are doubts around the ownership of the Jersey-based company and officials at the Department for … [Read more...] about Chelsea takeover at risk of collapse amid “alarm in government” over Roman Abramovich
Basel Open: ‘Surprised’ Federer Reaches 15th Quarter-final
Basel: Roger Federer reached the Basel quarter-finals for the 15th time on Thursday when he steamrolled Frenchman Benoit Paire 6-1, 6-3 as the top seed stepped up his campaign for an eighth Swiss Indoors title. Federer defeated Paire for the fifth time without a loss, mowing down the challenger in just 57 minutes in front of a sympathetic audience at the St Jakobshalle. The 36-year-old Federer, winner of his last event in Shanghai this month, is seeking an ATP-leading seventh trophy this season as he aims for the weekend final in his hometown. "I'm happy with how it went, I'm always ready for a tougher one," Federer said. "I got a good start, got rolling. "I was able to put more presure on him than him on me. I've had a good two first rounds. I thought the draw looked tough with (Francis) Tiafoe and Paire in my section. I'm a little surprised, to be honest. "It's not easy to win 1 and 3 indoors, this was a great start." Federer ripped through the opening set and piled on … [Read more...] about Basel Open: ‘Surprised’ Federer Reaches 15th Quarter-final

Astros throw combined no-hitter to hand mighty Yankees second-straight loss, 3-0
The 2022 Yankees, a galactic force, were brought back to this planet on Saturday. They didn’t just lose, they got no-hit, as Astros’ pitchers Cristian Javier, Hector Neris and Ryan Pressly turned in a historic performance, leading Houston to a 3-0 win in front of a stunned Yankee Stadium crowd. This is the 14th no-hitter in Astros’ history and third time they’ve tag teamed one. It’s also the Astros’ second combined no-hitter at Yankee Stadium, joining a six-man effort on June 11, 2003. That day in 2003 was the last time the Yankees had been on the wrong end of a no-hitter. Houston’s three pitchers allowed four base runners. Javier walked a guy, Neris walked two, and third baseman Alex Bregman committed a throwing error. They teamed up for 15 strikeouts, picking on Giancarlo Stanton for three of them. The pitcher’s duel between Javier and Gerrit Cole went to Houston’s Javier, who threw seven no-hit, no-run innings with 13 strikeouts but was lifted after 115 pitches. Reliever … [Read more...] about Astros throw combined no-hitter to hand mighty Yankees second-straight loss, 3-0
Rich nations hit brakes on climate aid to poor at UN talks
Rich countries including the European Union and the United States have pushed back against efforts to put financial help for poor nations suffering the devastating effects of global warming firmly on the agenda for this year's U.N. climate summit. Observers and campaigners attending a ten-day preparatory meeting in Bonn , Germany, that's wrapping up Thursday expressed frustration at the resistance shown by developed nations to formally discussing how poor countries can get more aid when they're hit by climate disasters. “Rich countries, particularly the EU, spiked the discussion about loss and damage at every single turn," said Teresa Anderson of the campaign group ActionAid International. Delegates from developing countries had hoped growing awareness of the severe economic cost that global warming is already having for billions of people around the world would help move the needle on an issue that has long split rich and poor nations. Those hopes were fueled … [Read more...] about Rich nations hit brakes on climate aid to poor at UN talks
