A 2024 Republican presidential primary poll shows former President Donald J. Trump holding a colossal 40-point lead over the rest of the potential field if he decides to run. Ron Desantis (R-FL), making him the second leading candidate. Former Vice President Mike Pence garnered seven percent of the response if Trump were to run. Trump has repeatedly teased and hinted at a 2024 bid since December 2020, including at CPAC earlier this year and a Georgia rally in March. He more recently told the New Yorker he is “very close to making a decision.” Trump recently spoke about the possibility squaring off with DeSantis in the 2024 primaries. “I don’t know if Ron is running, and I don’t ask him,” he told the New Yorker . “It’s his prerogative. I think I would win.” The idea of a Trump-DeSantis ticket in 2024 has also made headlines, … [Read more...] about Poll: Trump Towers over 2024 Field, Has 40-Point Lead over Closest Competitor

Australia and France make ‘new start’ after submarine row
Australia and France opened a “new chapter” in their relations Friday as the new Australian Prime Minister seeks to heal wounds from a secret submarine contract that infuriated France. President Emmanuel Macron warmly shook hands with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese outside the French presidential palace, showing a thumbs-up before putting his arm around the Australian leader's back as they headed inside for talks. “Trust, respect and honesty matters,” Mr. Albanese told reporters. “This is how I will approach my relations” with France. Paris responded with fury when the previous Australian government announced in September that it was cancelling a 90 billion Australian dollar ($62 billion) contract for French-made diesel-electric submarines. Instead, Australia had struck a deal with the United States and Britain to provide submarines powered with US nuclear technology, which French leaders said was sealed behind their backs. France temporarily withdrew its … [Read more...] about Australia and France make ‘new start’ after submarine row
One-Third Have Changed Fourth of July Plans Due to High Gas Prices
One-third of Americans have changed their Fourth of July plans due to high gas prices, an Emerson College Poll released Friday found. The survey, taken June 28-29 among 1,271 registered voters, found that 33 percent have actively changed their travel plans this holiday weekend due to consistently high gas prices. “Regarding airfare, 18% have changed plans because of issues with plane travel,” the survey found. The results come as gas prices remain high, standing at an average of $4.842 on Friday after reaching an all-time high of $5.016 on June 14. Even so, gas prices are still well over $2.40 higher than on former President Donald Trump’s last full day in office on January 19, 2021. At the time, the gas price average stood at $2.38. Not only that, but the cost of throwing a Fourth of July weekend cookout has jumped drastically, up 17 percent from last year, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF): Survey results showed the retail price for 2 pounds of … [Read more...] about One-Third Have Changed Fourth of July Plans Due to High Gas Prices
